{"id":258269,"date":"2022-09-27T11:43:44","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T15:43:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=258269"},"modified":"2022-09-27T11:43:44","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T15:43:44","slug":"referendum-yes-vote-for-new-family-code-a-majority-in-cuba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/referendum-yes-vote-for-new-family-code-a-majority-in-cuba\/","title":{"rendered":"Referendum: \u201cYes\u201d vote for new Family Code a majority in Cuba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The referendum for the new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/family-code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Family Code<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> resulted in 66.87% of the ballots in favor and 33% against, an \u201cirreversible trend\u201d for its popular approval according to the preliminary results announced by the National Electoral Council (CEN).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In statements by Alina Balseiro, president of the CEN, to Cuban television this Monday morning, 74.1% of the 8,447,467 registered voters voted, both those who cast their vote both in Cuba as well as in schools located abroad last week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding the results, 94.25% of the ballots (5,892,705) were valid; of these, 3,936,790 were in favor of \u201cYes\u201d while 1,950,090 opted for \u201cNo,\u201d evidence of how controversial both the law and the context of the people\u2019s consultation have been.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FEleccionesEnCuba%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0bKA6ivthptc7E6as9HDZTaLJbm3QSso9zQdmkG46dK1tJFKaoytbjV5436wXeXBil&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"483\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CEN had postponed one hour \u2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time \u2015 the closing of polling stations in eight of the 15 provinces due to the rains recorded during the referendum and there were still 36 constituencies to count, corresponding to Holgu\u00edn, Havana and Santiago de Cuba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This exercise coincided with the intensification of Tropical Storm Ian, which continues its advance through the Caribbean Sea and already became a hurricane at dawn this Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The referendum on the Family Code is the first to be held in Cuba for a law since the triumph of the revolution in 1959, EFE news agency recalled.
