{"id":265121,"date":"2023-02-15T15:16:37","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T20:16:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=265121"},"modified":"2023-02-15T15:16:37","modified_gmt":"2023-02-15T20:16:37","slug":"dominican-republic-returns-group-of-12-cuban-irregular-migrants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/dominican-republic-returns-group-of-12-cuban-irregular-migrants\/","title":{"rendered":"Dominican Republic returns group of 12 Cuban irregular migrants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Authorities from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/dominican-republic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Dominican Republic<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> returned to Cuba this Monday a group of 12 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/cuban-emigrants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>irregular<\/b> <b>migrants<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in compliance with the agreements signed between both nations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On board an aircraft that landed at Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed International Airport in Havana, 10 men and two women were returned, most of them, residents of the province of Ciego de \u00c1vila.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FAgenciaCubanaDeNoticias%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02nakSKSwjkirLQz5cppRwZUNbKfaZADYwCCJpApAZqnZ3vgScU3Gvv3cA8KAV7bNml&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"452\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These 12 people were intercepted in two attempts to illegally leave the country by sea, according to a brief <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.minint.gob.cu\/noticias\/republica-dominicana-retorna-12-migrantes-irregulares\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>note<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0published on the website of the <\/span>Ministry of the Interior (MININT).<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the members of the group was transferred to the investigative bodies for being involved in serious criminal acts, which were previously investigated according to said source.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So far in 2023, air and sea operations to return irregular migrants to Cuba from several neighboring nations have been frequent. Most of them come from the United States and Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of January, it was revealed that the United States Coast Guard had intercepted more than 1,200 Cubans on the high seas and returned them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When February began, and according to data from the MININT, 25 return operations had been carried out that included more than 2,000 Cuban irregular migrants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, some statistics point to a reduction in the month of January of up to 97% of Cubans who had arrived at the land border of the United States, since this country included the island\u2019s nationals in a program to welcome 30,000 migrants per month.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"SyBUzsCyvl\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/migration\/more-than-8000-illegal-migrants-returned-to-cuba-from-three-nations-in-2022\/\">More than 8,000 illegal migrants returned to Cuba from three nations in 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;More than 8,000 illegal migrants returned to Cuba from three nations in 2022&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/migration\/more-than-8000-illegal-migrants-returned-to-cuba-from-three-nations-in-2022\/embed\/#?secret=33sqTvBotk#?secret=SyBUzsCyvl\" data-secret=\"SyBUzsCyvl\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This program includes the nations of Venezuela, Haiti, and Nicaragua.
