They were repairing refrigerators, according to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.granma.cu\/cuba\/2023-03-01\/explosion-en-la-habana-vieja-deja-un-fallecido-y-un-herido\"><b>note<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0published by the official newspaper <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Granma<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fcamhabanavieja%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0dmYfb1aeUz5nBJZxnuSAMDCtX4xs264CUvhEgkYkVFXLyXwRzVfKL6Mve83SsLkZl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"742\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through its Facebook profile, the municipality\u2019s Administration Council reported that one of the men was transferred to the Calixto Garc\u00eda Hospital, but regretted the death of the other person.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brigades of the Fire Department of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), the emergency medical service and the authorities of the territory went to the place.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cubadebate.cu\/noticias\/2023\/03\/01\/reportan-explosion-de-balita-de-gas-en-la-habana-vieja\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Cubadebate<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the accident occurred due to a gas leak while a refrigerator was being repaired.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The explosion occurred just two weeks after another, presumably linked to a gas leak, occurred at the Caribbean Hotel, located on Paseo del Prado in Havana, which resulted in one person being injured, but without significant damage to the structure of the property.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/explosion-in-havana-hotel-reported\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>incidents of this type<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have occurred in recent months in the island\u2019s capital, but none on the scale of the explosion at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/saratoga-hotel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Saratoga Hotel<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that occurred in May 2022, which killed 47 people and injured close to a hundred.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, this incident caused severe damage to the hotel facility and other adjoining buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An explosion in the Old Havana municipality this Tuesday night left one person dead and another hospitalized, according to official media reports on the island.
