Such is the case of Florida representative Mario D\u00edaz-Balart, one of the staunchest opponents of any relaxation of the iron-clad policy towards Cuba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to what has emerged, among the measures managed by Biden was the possibility that the Cuban private sector could open bank accounts in the United States. As well as that U.S. banks authorize dollar transactions originating in third countries that involve Cuban citizens, which, in fact, represents a return to the so-called U-Turn transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If finally implemented, these regulations would provide a boost to the growth of private businesses in Cuba in the midst of the deep economic crisis that the island is suffering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Furthermore, they would be in tune with those, on both sides of the Florida Straits, who advocate for greater bilateral exchange and for a more effective translation into practice of Washington\u2019s speech about supporting more the private sector and the Cuban population.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to official statistics, to date, about 9,000 private MSMEs have been approved, which employ about 260,000 workers. Likewise, these small enterprises have become important importers of food and basic necessities in the midst of a critical situation for the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"hvlgkqAvQn\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/almost-9000-private-msmes-employ-some-260000-people-in-cuba\/\">Almost 9,000 private MSMEs employ some 260,000 people in Cuba<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Almost 9,000 private MSMEs employ some 260,000 people in Cuba&#8221; &#8212; OnCubaNews English\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/almost-9000-private-msmes-employ-some-260000-people-in-cuba\/embed\/#?secret=5paRLQkk89#?secret=hvlgkqAvQn\" data-secret=\"hvlgkqAvQn\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the Biden administration, supporting private enterprises on the island is key to helping Cubans become independent from the State, strengthening civil society and containing emigration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLong-standing U.S. policy supports Cuban entrepreneurs and the growth and independence of the Cuban private sector to maximize benefits for the Cuban people and minimize benefits for the Cuban government,\u201d a State Department spokesperson said, as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elnuevoherald.com\/noticias\/america-latina\/cuba-es\/article280790455.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>quoted<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El Nuevo Herald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This spokesperson acknowledged that his government has seen \u201cencouraging signs that the Cuban government is opening more space for the private sector,\u201d and said he thinks that \u201cits continued growth provides a window of opportunity to present a different social model to the Cuban people, driven by market economics rather than government control.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, that position and the changes that could arise from it face opposition from D\u00edaz-Balart, who has said both in public and in official meetings that he is against giving any aid to the government of Cuba, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Herald<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The newspaper quoted an aide to the congressman, according to whom the Republican representative \u201copposes channeling funds to Cuba.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The assistant, the publication comments, \u201cstopped short of saying that D\u00edaz-Balart\u2019s opposition could be the reason why the Cuban regulations have not yet been announced.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s not a direct line, but you\u2019re probably wondering what he would do,\u201d he said, referring to Biden administration officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In D\u00edaz-Balart\u2019s opinion, \u201cthe Biden administration\u2019s claim that relaxing sanctions will support \u2018private business\u2019 and \u2018independent entrepreneurs\u2019 within communist and totalitarian Cuba is completely false.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The congressman has pointed to China as an example. \u201cWe allowed it into the World Trade Organization and that led to China becoming more powerful and more capable of suppressing dissent. At the end of September, the city of Miami was the scene of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/economy\/entrepreneurship-in-cuba\/cuban-private-entrepreneurs-in-miami-closing-the-circle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>an unprecedented meeting<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between Cuban private entrepreneurs with U.S. colleagues, legal experts and government representatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At that meeting, new business opportunities were explored, the possibilities and legal mechanisms in force for carrying out said businesses were explained, and there was discussion about possible changes in current regulations that facilitate commercial exchange and open new opportunities for Cuban entrepreneurs in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, a month later these changes have still not materialized and, at least for the moment, the scenario of bilateral relations remains the same while politicians like D\u00edaz-Balart do
