Cuba made public on Thursday a National List of terrorists which includes 61 individuals and 19 “criminal entities or organizations based in the United States” which, it explains, have been “subjected to criminal investigations and are wanted by Cuban authorities”.<\/p>\n
The individuals and entities were included in this National List “by virtue of Resolution 1373 of the United Nations Security Council, international law and the domestic legal system” and given “their involvement in the promotion, planning, organization, financing, support or commission of acts carried out in the national territory or other countries, based on acts of terrorism”.<\/p>\n
“The Ministry of Interior ensures the existence of reasonable grounds or bases to include these individuals and entities or organizations in the National Terrorist List, with duly documented evidentiary elements, which meet the designation criteria defined in the international and national standards mentioned in this Resolution,” the document points out.<\/p>\n
The first ones mentioned in the List are related to “consummated terrorist acts” in the 90’s in hotels and other tourist centers in Havana.<\/p>\n
They are followed by other types of actions such as “the infiltration of terrorists from the United States along the Cuban coast to carry out violent acts in the province of Villa Clara”; “plans for attacks against the President of the Republic of Cuba” [Fidel Castro], between 1991 and 2001; the promotion, financing and organization of terrorist acts carried out in Cuba, between 1991 and 2010.<\/p>\n
Also listed are acts such as the derailment of a train carrying goods in Mariel; the financing and execution of “activities aimed at destabilizing the social order in Cuba” and public institutions in Cuba; acts of sabotage in the national electro-energy system; activities against the functioning of public institutions in Cuba; incitement to “the carrying out of actions that affect the social order in Cuba, through violent acts against public officials and the normal functioning of socio-economic entities; as well as promoting armed aggression against Cuba.”<\/p>\n
The Resolution dates from last November 2, and is signed by the Head of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of the Interior, First Colonel Moraima Bravet Gar\u00f3falo. Became effective as of November 7 when it was published in the Official Gazette.<\/p>\n
Last November 30, the United States decided to maintain Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism for another year. The Cuban government described the State Department report on which this decision was based as a “slanderous reference”.<\/p>\n
