{"id":295247,"date":"2024-01-24T14:41:01","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T19:41:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=295247"},"modified":"2026-02-11T11:59:23","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T16:59:23","slug":"clasica-new-card-for-payments-in-dollars-in-cuba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/economy\/clasica-new-card-for-payments-in-dollars-in-cuba\/","title":{"rendered":"Cl\u00e1sica, new card for payments in dollars in Cuba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financiera Cimex S.A., belonging to the Cuban corporation of the same name, announced this Tuesday the provision of a new card for payments in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/dollarization-of-cuban-economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>U.S. dollars (USD)<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is Cl\u00e1sica, a new financial product that allows payment in Cuba for products and services marketed in the U.S. currency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The entity reported that the new card will be operational starting January 24 and can be used throughout the island\u2019s commercial network where electronic point-of-sale (POS) terminals operate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cimex also explained that the product is for exclusive use in the national territory, although it can be used by national and foreign users.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the state corporation, it incorporates \u201ctechnical-commercial characteristics that distinguish it from other services\u201d and will contribute to the national digitalization process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fcimexcuba%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0PA9jc2H2JTXi9RtepXGsDJxTwD56ehzgRopsXcRaM6Duys2zqizCYmu4Mg659Mqal&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"535\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cl\u00e1sica will be functional for imports, as well as for the purchase of fuel in the new network of Cuban service centers that operate in dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People will be able to purchase the card for a retail price of 4 USD, or in foreign currencies accepted in the country at the current <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/tasa-de-cambio\/exchange-rate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>exchange rate<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of the indicated date, they will be physically available in <\/span>Cadeca<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s national network, or their preparation can be requested from abroad through the tocopay.com website, and collected at Fincimex offices throughout Cuban territory, the entity stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The national and foreign distribution networks will gradually expand, Cimex pointed out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the most notable characteristics of the Cl\u00e1sica Card is that it will be issued without preset amounts and a mandatory minimum balance, so the client will freely decide the amount to credit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of its main advantages is that it can be recharged from abroad, also through the <strong>www.tocopay.com website<\/strong>, or by crediting cash in USD (or in foreign currencies accepted in the country at the current exchange rate) in the country\u2019s Cadeca network.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, they can be purchased and recharged at the Banco Popular de Ahorro, as there are no Cadeca establishments in that territory, the entity specified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Cimex, Cl\u00e1sica will be a non-personalized card that offers \u201ca high level of security.\u201d For its use in the commercial network, the note explains, the use of the PIN will be required, without the customer\u2019s identification being necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its validity will expire five years after issuance and its balance will not be refundable in case of leaving the country. The money deposited in it can be withdrawn in Cuban pesos in the Cadeca network and banks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The announcement highlights that when making purchases
