
{"id":295609,"date":"2024-01-30T20:58:27","date_gmt":"2024-01-31T01:58:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=295609"},"modified":"2024-01-30T20:58:27","modified_gmt":"2024-01-31T01:58:27","slug":"robotic-hands-for-amputee-patients-tested-in-santiago-de-cuba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/science-cuba\/robotic-hands-for-amputee-patients-tested-in-santiago-de-cuba\/","title":{"rendered":"Robotic hands for amputee patients tested in Santiago de Cuba"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/santiago-de-cuba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Santiago de Cuba<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tested robotic hands in that city for amputee patients, designed and created by them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The prostheses, created by a team from the University of Oriente, were subjected to two pilot tests at the Juan Bruno Zayas Hospital in Santiago, the Agencia Cubana de Noticias (ACN) news agency <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acn.cu\/salud\/investigadores-ratifican-efectividad-de-nuevos-equipos-medicos-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>reported<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These tests \u201cmade it possible to demonstrate the effectiveness of the robotic exoskeleton in the rehabilitation of upper limbs,\u201d said the media, which cites Professor Roberto Sagar\u00f3, leader of the study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Sagar\u00f3, this device for hand amputee patients has \u201celectromyographic sensors to capture signals from the remaining muscles,\u201d which \u201chave the purpose of executing desired movements and facilitating precise grip.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The expert specified that \u201cthe generalized results will be seen next year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, he announced joint work between the Department of Mechanics of the higher house of studies in Santiago and the Federal University of Esp\u00edritu do Santo, in Brazil, to create an exoskeleton for lower limbs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, Marcia Hern\u00e1ndez, a specialist in the Physiotherapy ward at the Juan Bruno Zayas Hospital, told ACN that the use of robotic hands \u201cspeeds up the patient\u2019s incorporation into daily work and recreational activities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hern\u00e1ndez confirmed the \u201cencouraging results\u201d of these and other equipment created by Santiago scientists in the recovery of patients and praised its high impact in reducing physical-motor conditions once its medical use becomes widespread.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along with robotic prostheses for amputee patients, scientists at Santiago University have also created devices for the treatment of conditions such as Painful Shoulder Syndrome and Adhesive Capsulitis, official information pointed out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last October, the implantation of myoelectric prostheses in amputee patients by the Cuba-RDA Teaching Technical Orthopedics Laboratory was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/implantan-en-cuba-protesis-mioelectricas-alemanas-a-pacientes-amputados\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>announced<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These devices are manufactured by the German company Ottobock, one of the main suppliers of these products for Cuba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The director of the laboratory, Luis Hern\u00e1ndez, then pointed out that \u201cthey are high-performance prostheses, which will offer the patient a better quality of life and ideal comfort to carry out essential activities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously, in July, Cuban specialists announced the third stage of clinical trials for the national use of a partial hip
