President <\/span>Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel<\/b><\/a> publicly recognized that the states of opinion of Cubans regarding the government\u2019s work \u201care very critical and very negative\u201d, particularly regarding the situation of the basic food basket, but he reiterated that the fundamental causes of these problems stem from the U.S. sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNeither rice, nor coffee, nor peas, they forgot the people.\u201d \u201cIt seems it\u2019s a counterrevolution to keep the people upset.\u201d \u201cThings are getting tougher, neither minced meat nor chicken is coming; diet milk for children and sick people has no quality.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

These were some of the comments collected on the networks and that the president read at the beginning of the second program <\/span>Desde la Presidencia<\/span><\/i>, broadcast this Thursday on the YouTube channel of the Cuban presidency.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participating as guests in the space, dedicated to the regulated family food basket \u2015 for months fragmented and delayed in most of its products \u2015 were Minister of Domestic Trade Betsy D\u00edaz Vel\u00e1zquez and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Oscar P\u00e9rez-Oliva Fraga.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to D\u00edaz-Canel, the distribution morass reflects once again \u201cthe worsening of the blockade that is real\u201d and that is marking both <\/span>power availability<\/b><\/a> and the lack of liquidity in foreign currency, both scenarios due to Washington\u2019s sanctions and financial persecution.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is taking a lot of work to get fuel to the country,\u201d he said, which has repercussions on the food distribution chain so that the products finally reach the more than 12,000 grocery stores on the island.<\/span><\/p>\n

Likewise, the president attacked the United States for condemning Cuba to a \u201cstrategy of economic asphyxiation\u201d complemented by \u201cmedia intoxication,\u201d through which, he assured, an attempt is being made to solely blame the government for the prolonged crisis suffered by the country.<\/span><\/p>\n
