But we have the morality and the courage to face it,\u201d she affirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bejerano, 77 years old, has been leading the Comptroller General\u2019s Office for 15 years and auditing for 20 years. She advocates drawing \u201clessons\u201d from this \u201csadly negative lesson.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gil <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/nuevo-ministro-de-economia-en-cuba-y-otros-movimientos-en-el-gabinete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>was dismissed<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as Minister of Economy on February 2 without public explanation, but on March 7, President <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/miguel-diaz-canel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> announced that he was accused of \u201cserious errors.\u201d He spoke, without details, of \u201ccorruption,\u201d \u201csimulation,\u201d and \u201cinsensitivity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEvery time there has been an event, it has been made public. \u201cI can assure you of that,\u201d says this member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, the only legal one), convinced that \u201csooner rather than later and to the extent of being objective, all the information\u201d will be provided.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She emphasized that the Cuban system does not minimize corruption, \u201cneither because of the amount nor because it is from below or above,\u201d although she understands that this case has \u201cgreater importance.\u201d She clarified that the investigation into Gil did not start from the Comptroller General\u2019s Office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bejerano recognizes that the crisis has increased corruption somewhat because \u201cthere is a greater need\u201d and a shortage \u201cof everything,\u201d although \u201cit is not a justification.\u201d Some people, she pointed out, \u201cgive in to the black market\u201d and others take advantage, \u201ceven cruelly.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She indicated that 76% of the illegalities detected occur \u201cat the grassroots level\u201d and that his \u201cbattle\u201d is to reduce them to \u201czero,\u201d as a matter of \u201cprinciples\u201d and \u201cconvictions\u201d of the revolution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPeople don\u2019t parachute into corruption. It is a process: corruption is decomposition. It is a process of loss of values, self-esteem, self-respect&#8230;. Others are out of self-sufficiency, out of vanity, out of arrogance,\u201d she specified.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"dbcUh8JsLD\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/economia\/caso-gil-una-campana-anticorrupcion-en-cuba\/\">Caso Gil: \u00bfuna campa\u00f1a anticorrupci\u00f3n en Cuba?<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"\u00abCaso Gil: \u00bfuna campa\u00f1a anticorrupci\u00f3n en Cuba?\u00bb \u2014 OnCubaNews\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/economia\/caso-gil-una-campana-anticorrupcion-en-cuba\/embed\/#?secret=LETrw41P5B#?secret=dbcUh8JsLD\" data-secret=\"dbcUh8JsLD\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bejerano admits that 23% of the country\u2019s control systems have deficiencies, mainly due to a lack of technical or human capabilities (only 60% of the Comptroller General\u2019s positions are filled): \u201cThe controls are not at the level\u201d that the Comptroller\u2019s Office wants and that the country, the government and the PCC need,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also explained that the GAESA business conglomerate, of the Armed Forces, is not under her supervision. This state group \u2015 which includes telecommunications, almost the entire tourism sector, remittances, importing and distributing firms, banks, gas stations, real estate agencies and other businesses \u2015 represents the main contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She said that GAESA has \u201chigher discipline and organization\u201d due to its decades of business experience and that the Comptroller Office concentrates \u201cforces\u201d where \u201cadvances\u201d are needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding the link between corruption and growing inequalities in the country, Bejerano linked it to the emergence of the private sector and pointed out that some people have more because they work and \u201chave results,\u201d but she believes that there are also \u201cillegalities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are not going to let either the state or the private sector commit these types of crimes and offend and mistreat the people. That cannot be allowed: it is not what we want, it is not the model. We want honest, fighting and hard-working people to be able to have their business in order, fulfilling their obligations to the treasury and to society,\u201d she answered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding the execution of the budget, also the responsibility of the Comptroller\u2019s Office, she advanced that so far this year \u201crevenues were met\u201d and \u201cexpenses were reduced.\u201d \u201cThere is, we could say, a favorable behavior,\u201d she indicated, although she immediately pointed out that \u201cit is not that the problem is already
