They urged President Biden to change course in the final stretch of his term.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Exchange of messages<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The United States government said this Monday that it is \u201cclosely\u201d monitoring the blackouts that Cuba has suffered in recent days and assured that it does not rule out providing aid to the island.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a press briefing, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that her government is concerned about \u201cthe potential humanitarian impacts (of the blackouts) on the Cuban people,\u201d at a time when Cuba is seeking to recover from the recent collapse of its electrical system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The spokeswoman explained that the Cuban government \u201chas not requested any assistance at this time,\u201d but did not rule out providing it in the future if it does so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If such a request were to be made, she said, the U.S. administration \u201cwould assess the appropriate next steps,\u201d says a report from the EFE news agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In response, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) assured this Monday that \u201cspecific requests\u201d are not necessary and that the U.S. authorities know \u201cclearly what must be done,\u201d in reference to the lifting of sanctions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIf the U.S. government is truly willing to help, it knows and clearly understands where it can make a difference and what must be done.
