{"id":313963,"date":"2024-11-29T15:02:09","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T20:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=313963"},"modified":"2024-11-29T15:02:09","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T20:02:09","slug":"recent-earthquakes-in-eastern-cuba-cause-more-than-6000-aftershocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/recent-earthquakes-in-eastern-cuba-cause-more-than-6000-aftershocks\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent earthquakes in eastern Cuba cause more than 6,000 aftershocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the 6.7 magnitude earthquake on November 10 in eastern Cuba, experts have recorded a total of 6,123 aftershocks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/story.php?story_fbid=583552141246036&amp;id=100087737650352&amp;rdid=MHZlnIUUgBlIxXgH\"><b>information provided<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Dr. Enrique Arango Arias, head of the National Seismological Service, some 127 of them have been \u201cprobably perceptible,\u201d a category that applies when they have magnitudes greater than 2.5 degrees on the Richter scale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpermalink.php%3Fstory_fbid%3Dpfbid0eZmqHt6x5gUZfSphpuV5WwLswxewd3Arf9hscUoMEce2KDK3kQ1tSqnwqewNvUPtl%26id%3D100087737650352&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"647\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Early this Monday morning, a new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/tag\/earthquake-in-cuba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>earthquake<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shook the municipality of Pil\u00f3n, in Granma, and other areas in the east of the island. The earthquake was recorded at 1:52 a.m. and its epicenter was located 34 kilometers southeast of Pil\u00f3n, said Arango Arias.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the specialist, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of 10 kilometers, while the radio station Radio Bayamo <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/RadioBayamo\/posts\/pfbid032gLJsNyQP9axWBKaeK3Q6rwA6vsi3b7KMdeqJg8neD9LQpmksTkZ6YGifgAoTvF6l?locale=es_LA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>gave<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0reports of perceptibility in several localities of Granma and in neighboring Santiago de Cuba.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That morning\u2019s earthquake occurred two weeks after the earthquakes experienced in this same area on November 10. These earthquakes, of a magnitude of 6.0 and 6.7 degrees, also had their epicenter near Pil\u00f3n and caused significant damage, mainly in homes and state centers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of last week, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.granma.cu\/cuba\/2024-11-20\/volver-a-levantarse-20-11-2024-21-11-32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>authorities<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had reported more than 8,000 buildings affected; of these, some 130 total collapses, more than 700 partial collapses and thousands of damages to roofs, walls and floors, mainly in Granma province.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cuba\/sismos-de-este-domingo-podrian-tener-replicas-durante-los-proximos-meses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>According to<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Dr. Bladimir Moreno Toir\u00e1n, president of the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS) Scientific Council, these earthquakes could have aftershocks \u201cduring the next few months,\u201d which, he explained, \u201cshould diminish as time goes by.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In previous reports, the head of CENAIS clarified that \u201cthe southeastern coast is not in danger of a tsunami\u201d based on earthquakes that occurred on the Oriente fault,\u201d an explanation given on different occasions, despite
