{"id":318282,"date":"2025-02-17T18:53:16","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T23:53:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=318282"},"modified":"2025-02-17T18:53:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-17T23:53:16","slug":"rumba-party-in-callejon-de-hamel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/digital-channel\/gallery\/rumba-party-in-callejon-de-hamel\/","title":{"rendered":"Rumba party in Callej\u00f3n de Hamel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s been almost four years since\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/cultura\/fallece-en-la-habana-el-pintor-y-promotor-cultural-salvador-gonzalez-lider-del-callejon-de-hamel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Salvador Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong><\/a>, the founder of the artistic and community project\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/canaldigital\/galerias\/miradas\/el-callejon-de-hamel-autentico-a-pesar-de-todo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Callej\u00f3n de Hamel, died<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. His death was a hard blow to an initiative with more than three decades of deep roots and to the Havana neighborhood in which it is based.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After this time, Cuba is not the same either. The traces of the pandemic, the redoubled economic crisis, the wave of migration, the endless blackouts, and the drop in tourism have blurred what the country was years ago. The project, its people, refuse to surrender their essence and purposes, refuse to stop being.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the example and spirit of Salvador, a self-taught painter and sculptor who started it around 1990, this small alley located very close to the busy San L\u00e1zaro Street \u2014 and whose name recalls U.S. businessman Fernando Belleau Hamel \u2014 continues to be a sanctuary of Afro-Cuban culture in the city of Havana.
