I want to give you something always better,\u201d he told <\/span><b>OnCuba<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, sitting at the piano he will play at this reunion with his audience and longtime musician friends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOne is always very restless outside of this land that saw one grow up, that gave one all these gifts that Cuba offers, and which in my case are family and this tradition. So returning here, touching the land with one\u2019s feet \u2014 as I say, \u2018with my feet on my land\u2019 \u2014 is a blessing, and presenting art here even more so,\u201d he said, alluding to the title of his latest album, released under the Egrem label in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cucurucho Vald\u00e9s, otra vez con los pies en su tierra\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dULeP1GY440?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For this reunion, Roberto Carlos Rodr\u00edguez Vald\u00e9s, known as Cucurucho, decided to be accompanied by other important Cuban musicians, with whom he also maintains a long friendship and has shared years of work: Jorge Reyes on double bass, Adel Gonz\u00e1lez on percussion, Alejandro Delgado on trumpet, and, as a guest, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/alain-perez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Alain P\u00e9rez<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSince I began my solo career, I\u2019ve been fortunate enough to have the support of many experienced musicians who have connected with my piano playing, my style, and my compositions. I\u2019m very happy and honored that this is happening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFirst of all, as people they are exceptional, which is what motivates me to share the stage with them. Empathy, celebrations, and understanding are important, and when you enter the professional arena, everything is much better. I feel very comfortable because they are lifelong maestros,\u201d explains Cucurucho.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cucurucho Vald\u00e9s - Con Los Pies En Mi Tierra | Desde El Estudio\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7xar1-mnt_A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His departure from Cuba was another step in his career and an opportunity to find his sound and even family roots, primarily the work of his grandfather, the great Bebo Vald\u00e9s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was touring Austria, Switzerland, and France, and I received an offer in Spain to start working with bassist Javier Colina, an icon of the double bass, and I really couldn\u2019t pass it up. I also wanted to explore other aspects of Spanish music, flamenco, which are elements that are in our roots, elements that are also foundations of Cuban music.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThat\u2019s when we started exploring the repertoire a bit, doing pieces by Maestro Bebo Vald\u00e9s, trying to do versions, with great tact because Cuban music has to be played with care, and Javier is truly an expert in this genre. We did a project called <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homenaje a Bebo<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We\u2019ve played on stages all over Europe and it\u2019s been really well received. It\u2019s been a different experience. I think I\u2019m in a good place, on a good path, and accompanied by the greats. It is truly a tremendous honor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although the artist had already traveled around the world several times throughout his career, making a living from music from another part of the globe has been a new experience for him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDay to day life in the city where I live, Madrid, has been hard; emigration isn\u2019t easy, we all know that; but music is the only thing that can save me from these anxieties, from the absence of all this, which is wonderful: my Cuba, my people, my audience. So I\u2019m grateful for everything that\u2019s happened to me, since I laid hands on the piano, since my mother came up with that wonderful idea,\u201d he reflects emotionally, remembering his mother, Miriam Caridad Vald\u00e9s, the beloved piano teacher of several generations of Cuban artists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Cucurucho, being in Cuba isn\u2019t determined by geography; it\u2019s a feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m in Spain, and I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever left. Unfortunately, physically it\u2019s the opposite, but my heart is always here. I\u2019m never going to be far from this land. I plan to return whenever I have time and have this anxiety \u2014 which I have quite often \u2014 and life, my profession, and my finances allow it. I\u2019ll always be with my feet on this land and trying to reconnect with my audience, which is what I\u2019ll do this time and what I\u2019ll always do.
