Several resolutions from the Cuban Ministry of Trade and Foreign Investment are authorizing, as of this Thursday, five foreign companies to have legal representation in Cuba, including one from the United States.<\/p>\n
Published this Thursday in the Gaceta Oficial, the document details the activities which can be carried out on the island by these companies, which also include companies from Panama, Mexico, Spain and Italy.<\/p>\n
The text highlights the authorization granted to the U.S. company LUX SKY CARGO, INC., which will be able to register its representation office in the National Registry of Foreign Commercial Representations, attached to the Cuban Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n
The office\u2019s main activity will be the sale of vehicles, parts, food, beverages, telephone items, fuel and household appliances, among others.<\/p>\n
However, it is clarified that \u201cthe license granted under this Resolution does not authorize the following activities: direct commercial import and export; general wholesale and retail trade of products and services…; distribution and transportation of goods within the national territory.\u201d<\/p>\n
GENERAL FRUIT S.R.L. (Italy): This branch may be responsible for the production and marketing of food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as syrups and other food-related products. Its activity will be limited to representation and sales without authorization for direct import or export and without wholesale or retail trade within the territory.<\/p>\n
SEVINCO, S.L. (Spain): This branch is authorized to offer marketing services and technical assistance for engines, parts and accessories without import, export or distribution activities in Cuba.<\/p>\n
ROLOFF GROUP, INC. (Panama): Its office may be dedicated to the marketing of raw materials, finished goods and equipment for the food, construction and transportation sectors.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the document details that the Panamanian company may participate in renewable energy projects and the assembly of industrial plants for waste processing and agricultural production, but may not carry out direct imports and exports without prior authorization.<\/p>\n
IMPORTACIONES Y DISTRIBUCIONES LACOR, S.A. DE C.V. (Mexico): May dedicate its activities to the marketing, manufacturing and processing of food, seeds, basic food products, wines, liquors and other food products, excluding direct imports and exports and wholesale and retail distribution in Cuba.<\/p>\n
This authorization process is part of a Cuban government regulatory framework that allows foreign companies to officially register their presence in Cuba.<\/p>\n
The resolution establishes that the maximum period for formalizing registration is 90 days from its coming into force.<\/p>\n
According to the text, in case of noncompliance, the company will promote its deactivation and the file will be archived.<\/p>\n
