Latin America and the Caribbean must be respected as a Zone of Peace,\u201d the foreign minister emphasized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week, CNN revealed that <\/span><b>Washington began <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/mundo\/ee-uu\/eeuu-ordena-desplegar-fuerzas-militares-en-el-sur-del-mar-caribe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>deploying some 4,000 troops <\/b><\/a><b>\u2014 mostly Marines \u2014 in Latin American and Caribbean waters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of an operation against drug trafficking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The operation includes P8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, destroyers, a missile-equipped warship and even a nuclear submarine, according to EFE news agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a letter from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, released months ago, <\/span><b>the U.S. military\u2019s mission would include the defense of the national territory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hegseth noted that the objectives of the deployment also include \u201csealing the borders and repelling all forms of invasion, including mass immigration, drug trafficking, human smuggling and other criminal activities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cuba recalled that in 2014 the heads of state and government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/en\/tag\/community-of-latin-american-and-caribbean-states-celac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>CELAC<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) signed a proclamation declaring the region a \u201czone of peace,\u201d a commitment <\/span><b>Havana is demanding in the face of what it considers a new military threat in the Caribbean<\/b><span
