The first baseman of the Chicago White Sox, Jose \u00a8 Pito \u00a8 Abreu, continues to collect awards in his still budding career in American Major League, just four months, and inscribing his name in the record books.<\/p>\n
The Cienfuegos slugger was named Rookie of the month on Monday in the American League, third time, and Player of the month, second. The feat becomes something of a legend because in major league history no one had been awarded both awards twice in the same season.<\/p>\n
In addition, Abreu became the fourth rookie to win this monthly distinction more than once, since its inception in 2001. Prior had been Ichiro Suzuki (4 times in 2001), Jason Bay (3 times in 2004) and Mike Trout (4 in 2012).<\/p>\n
Last July Abreu hit .375 with 11 doubles, six homers and 19 RBIs, despite finishing the month with back pain. Moreover, in 24 of those games he managed to connect at least a hit, and led the American league in OPS (1.099), extra-base hits (17) and total bases (66).<\/p>\n
With his characteristic modesty, when receiving the awards Abreu said \u00a8 I do not like talking about myself, but I’m surprised. I didn\u2019t expect to have this success and these awards. But I am grateful that it happened. Now I will continue with my game as always \u00a8.
\nThe White Sox manager Robin Ventura, was full of praise for his pupil. \u00a8 It\u00b4s not surprising, he said, he had a great month and is now recognized. His dedication to the team makes it even better. Guys are happy for him. \u00a8<\/p>\n
