
{"id":330259,"date":"2025-10-27T14:33:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T18:33:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/?p=330259"},"modified":"2025-10-27T14:33:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T18:33:14","slug":"factor-e-cuban-ventures-in-a-talent-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/cuba\/factor-e-cuban-ventures-in-a-talent-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Factor E: Cuban ventures in a talent show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In November 2024\u00a0saw the launching of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/factorecuba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, a very innovative yet challenging project: a talent\u00a0show\u00a0for Cuban entrepreneurs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the first 72 hours after its launch,\u00a0nearly 200\u00a0business owners had registered, motivated by the initiative and its ambitious prize of $10,000 in technologies, supplies and raw materials.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The winner will be the owner of the best\u00a0\u201cE gene,\u201d\u00a0or entrepreneurial gene, as the organizers have called what they seek to identify and measure in the competition, because\u00a0\u201cwhat we are evaluating, while it is the individual\u2019s business, is also the entrepreneur\u2019s capacity,\u201d\u00a0explains Andy Jos\u00e9 Rivera,\u00a0director of operations\u00a0and host of\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Only 12 of the entrants made it to the competition, after undergoing a pre-selection and interview process.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The talent show is scheduled to premiere early next year. It will have ten episodes, the first five of which will focus on the competitors\u2019\u00a0work with\u00a0coaches\u00a0and then the jury will begin their tests. The program will be available on YouTube and in the weekly package.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe contestants will have to overcome very Cuban challenges, very fun challenges,\u201d\u00a0is all Rivero\u00a0advances.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From\u00a0words to action<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The project, created by\u00a0Yeline\u00a0Ramos, general manager of Nihao 53 and current CEO of\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, now has more than twenty sponsors.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhen we started thinking about\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, we wanted to create a space where\u00a0ventures\u00a0with a shared goal could coexist, which in this case was to foster creation, to foster\u00a0the Cuban business ecosystem\u00a0as such. Photo: Lied Lorain.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That clear idea quickly began to evolve in response to the needs that the contestants themselves were\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0existed in the sector and the opportunities and ideas that\u00a0emerged\u00a0due to the lengthy production times for such an ambitious audiovisual project.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe realized through the pre-selection and interview process that there was a need for training, for knowing how to do business, how\u00a0to scale a business. Entrepreneurs came to us and\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0clear about their mission or vision, whether their business was scalable or not, or\u00a0they\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0have a clear pitch. There was a huge need for this information and training, and we decided to explore other areas.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This is how the Labs were born,\u00a0lectures\u00a0dedicated to addressing various areas of business management,\u00a0given\u00a0by names that are now benchmarks for entrepreneurship in Cuba.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From the interest in motivation,\u00a0\u201cShowporation\u201d\u00a0was also born, the\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0podcast that just released its seventh episode. Photo: Taken from Factor E\u2019s Instagram.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To unite communities and foster natural exchanges, they\u00a0then\u00a0created\u00a0\u201cAfterwork by\u00a0Factor E,\u201d\u00a0a space where, at the end of a work week, entrepreneurs can attend a meeting where they can choose whether to talk business, meet new colleagues, or just enjoy and relax.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the ring\u2026<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The contestants for the first season of\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0were announced in December 2024. Filming for the show\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0begin until July 2025, during which time the participants shared training spaces, creating professional and personal bonds. It was an unusual process for this type of competition, but one that provided a unique experience for them and the entire team.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c$10,000 in\u00a0technology\u00a0can be the difference between your business succeeding or failing. However, most of the time,\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0just giving each other advice and supporting each other, and\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0something\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0priceless. In the end, I think this first generation of\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, having spent so much time and so many things together, has managed to\u00a0consolidate\u00a0itself as a family.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is a space where\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0not here to compete;\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0here to\u00a0come together\u00a0and help entrepreneurs move forward. We understand that competition as such doesn\u2019t exist because there\u2019s room and a market for everyone, because your\u00a0customer\u00a0isn\u2019t my\u00a0customer, because my products aren\u2019t your products, my suppliers aren\u2019t yours, and besides, it\u2019s great to have a rival, so to speak, who raises the bar a bit and doesn\u2019t let you stay in your comfort zone,\u201d\u00a0explains Rivera.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">However, there are twelve competitors, and only one of them will be the winner, according to a jury composed of Julio Mart\u00ednez, CEO of Cartel\u00a0Estudio; Alejandro\u00a0Palmarola, CEO of La Quinta de\u00a0los\u00a0Molinos; and\u00a0Yessie\u00a0Guridi, CEO and founder of\u00a0Cafetalex\u00a0and\u00a0Mokalex. The contestants have the support of\u00a0coaches\u00a0Mario Marketing, founder of Nos\u00a0Fuimos; Aldo \u00c1lvarez, senior partner of\u00a0Mercatoria; and Darien Garc\u00eda, general director of\u00a0Gestor\u00eda\u00a0Conf\u00edas.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1140px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Grabacion-Factor-E.jpg\" alt=\"Filming of Factor E. Entrepreneurs can win a competition and not be great businesspeople, or you can have lost the competition, or even been selected from the first rounds, and be a great businessperson. Because what it takes as an entrepreneur is to be systematic, persistent and not see failures, but rather see that the path wasn\u2019t that way, what I need to change, what I need to improve to move forward, and that\u2019s what I\u2019ve been trying to convey to them,\u201d\u00a0Dari\u00e9n Garc\u00eda explains about the vision the coaches worked with.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For her part,\u00a0Yessie\u00a0Guridi says that as a judge, she came to\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to\u00a0\u201cdiscover the nature of the Cuban entrepreneur, which is closely linked to creativity, to creative lucidity, because a Cuban entrepreneur faces a lot of challenges every day, just as the\u00a0contestants\u00a0will face on the program. What\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0going to measure is precisely that creativity, that capacity to respond, to confront any type of crisis. And,\u00a0of course, the resolution.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Among those whose talent or ability is being tested are entrepreneurs of different ages and business types. The rules only required that they respond to one of the forms of non-state management in the country and that they be in a start-up or embryonic stage, to ensure that the conditions for each contestant are not so unequal.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI think the experience with\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0has been quite constructive, especially because of all the people we\u2019ve met here and with whom we\u2019ve made connections and friendships, and I think that\u2019s what we take away most,\u201d\u00a0says Gabriela L\u00f3pez Gonz\u00e1lez,\u00a0founder and general coordinator\u00a0of the Aldama Project and one of the contestants.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThis is a vision that almost all the participants share, and they let us see it when our team had access to the final day of filming for the talent show.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cHere, the most important thing for all of us is not who wins, because in the end only one person will win. Here, the important thing is the process, the alliances we\u2019ll forge among ourselves, meeting people with visions or businesses different from yours, but with the same passion, with the same gene of trying to undertake or try to do things in Cuba, which is so needed,\u201d\u00a0thinks Fernando Arias, creator of\u00a0Venko, a sportswear brand.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In the end, the program has served\u00a0almost everyone\u00a0as a space where, more than just\u00a0showcasing\u00a0their abilities,\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0learned a\u00a0lot\u00a0and\u00a0they\u2019ve\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0it in every challenge.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIn some way, it\u2019s created a need for us to collaborate, to understand that it\u2019s necessary not only to generate revenue, but also to create value, to give others opportunities to do things, to manage and collaborate with people to make life easier, more comfortable, and to do business more easily in Cuba, which is the most important thing. It\u2019s helped us ground those ideas and realize the ideas we have as business owners, and it shows us that projects are closer than you think,\u201d\u00a0summarizes Marlon V\u00e1zquez of El Duro, a business that revives the Cuban\u00a0popsicle\u00a0that many of us grew up with, but which we\u2019ve established as a homemade product to this day.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The competitors also share that spirit of this being a lasting and inspiring project.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhen\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factor E<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0comes out, I think it will reach a lot of people because\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0young people here who started businesses from scratch.\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0individuals\u00a0and I think it will be an example for many people,\u201d\u00a0is what Joel L\u00f3pez Tamayo, competitor and creator of Jojo\u00a0Acuap\u00f3nicos, hopes to achieve.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1140px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Rodaje-Factor-E.jpg\" alt=\"Factor E is scheduled to premiere on YouTube in early 2026. The second is for the world to see that in Cuba, although not everything is as we would like it to be, we from within can make things change and that you can undertake something based on what you know with the passion that serves us and can serve many other people.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI would encourage them to be part of a project like this, where they definitely\u00a0put\u00a0to the test\u00a0many things\u00a0one\u00a0doesn\u2019t know\u00a0one\u00a0can do, and that\u2019s the most beautiful, most productive part, because\u00a0one\u00a0always thinks\u00a0one\u00a0has\u00a0a limit or that\u00a0one\u00a0can\u2019t achieve something. These are limitations, mental barriers that we impose on ourselves for no reason, because we leave them there and then you face different situations and realize that you can,\u201d\u00a0recommends Doria Alderete, head of\u00a0Progresiva.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI would like the image that the public is left with is that in difficult times, where so many people are thinking about moving or so many people\u00a0are\u00a0thinking about importing or thinking about other things, there are crazy people who still dream that it\u2019s possible to do things in Cuba, because Cuba needs people who decide to stay,\u201d\u00a0summarizes Fernando Arias.<\/span><span
