It moves me to see how a handful of verses and a progression of chords activate memories, grief,\u00a0joy\u00a0and life-changing decisions. In that sea of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u200b\u200b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">thousands, personal stories multiply, interwoven with songs born in the intimacy of a man that, as they took flight, became collective feelings.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The tour\u00a0\u2014\u00a0that has gone from\u00a0Havana, Santiago, Buenos Aires,\u00a0Montevideo\u00a0and Lima, and will continue in Medell\u00edn and Cali\u00a0\u2014\u00a0has traced, more than an itinerary, a map of memory.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubic-2025-3-1366x951.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\" width=\"1366\" height=\"951\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<span style=\"color: #333333; font-size: 15px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Reinaldo Pineda, a 57-year-old Costa Rican, has already covered several kilometers of this route:\u00a0\u201cI was in Havana, at the first one in Chile, the first two in Buenos Aires,\u00a0the two\u00a0in Montevideo and in Lima. And\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0be in Medell\u00edn and Cali to close it out.\u201d\u00a0In each city, he says, he felt variations of the same heartbeat:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve\u00a0experienced it with different intensity, because of the people I shared it with. In all of them, the emotion was raw.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1103px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pub-2025-3-1103x1366.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1103\" height=\"1366\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There are constants that run through his experience:\u00a0\u201cPerhaps the tributes to his contemporaries (Vicente, Noel and Pablo), experienced differently in each place.\u201d\u00a0And there are moments that break him:\u00a0\u201cStarting with \u2018Ala de\u00a0colibr\u00ed,\u2019\u00a0because of the emotion I felt with my companions.\u2026\u00a0Everywhere, the wait for\u00a0\u2018<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Aprendiz\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2019\u00a0was long.\u201d\u00a0He says he is united by a shared certainty:\u00a0\u201cFeeling Cuba and Silvio very close to my heart, in complicated times on the island.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pub-2025-2-1366x909.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1366\" height=\"909\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From Peru, Jhonatan\u00a0\u2014\u00a0a teacher\u00a0\u2014\u00a0found a circle to close on this journey:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve\u00a0been listening to Silvio since I was fifteen. His poetry set to song has been, is and will be my refuge. My daughter\u2019s name is Adriana Mariana: her middle name is\u00a0for\u00a0\u2018Y Mariana.\u2019\u00a0While she was being born,\u00a0\u2018S\u00f3lo\u00a0el\u00a0amor\u2019\u00a0was playing in the delivery room.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">He traveled to Havana and Lima:\u00a0\u201cI wanted to see him in his homeland and in mine. In Havana, I felt like I was\u00a0witnessing\u00a0history; in Lima, that I was living a piece of my own.\u201d\u00a0\u201cVenga la\u00a0esperanza\u201d\u00a0was\u00a0its\u00a0guiding thread:\u00a0\u201cIn Havana, it seemed as if the audience was breathing as one, a song that encapsulated dignity and faith. In Lima, it was more of a prayer not to lose the light.\u201d\u00a0The high point came with\u00a0\u201cYolanda,\u201d\u00a0sung by Silvio and Malva:\u00a0\u201cIt was closing a cycle between Pablo\u2019s absence and Silvio\u2019s continued presence. Art\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0die; it transforms,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0inherited, it outlives us.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That memory\u00a0\u2014\u00a0of people,\u00a0cities\u00a0and struggles\u00a0\u2014\u00a0is also mentioned by Aida Roa Villar, a Chilean woman who turned 50 at one of these concerts.\u00a0\u201cI grew up with\u00a0his\u00a0songs; I learned them from my mother.\u00a0They\u2019ve\u00a0been there for me in my most difficult and happiest moments,\u201d\u00a0she says. On this tour, she\u00a0was\u00a0in Santiago, Chile,\u00a0Buenos Aires\u00a0and Lima. Each venue evoked a different emotion:\u00a0\u201cIn Chile, seven years of waiting. Total\u00a0emotion. In Buenos Aires, I was worried about his health; I admire that he gives so many concerts and pours his heart and soul into every performance. Clara Calicchio, 34, speaks from the house where, as a child, she transcribed lyrics and asked questions about words:\u00a0\u201cSilvio taught more than just music. In 2005, I saw him\u00a0at\u00a0the march against the FTAA. My devotion grew.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This tour found her at the first Movistar Arena in Chile and at all three in Buenos Aires.\u00a0\u201cI went to the first one in Argentina with my whole family; there were eight of us.\u201d\u00a0She is moved by the shared\u00a0ritual\u00a0\u2014\u00a0\u201cwhen he mentions Che and we applaud, when he says revolution and everyone shouts\u201d\u00a0\u2014\u00a0and he focuses on two moments: the\u00a0\u201cEva\u201d\u00a0that in 2018 was sung with green handkerchiefs held high (\u201cmore heartfelt in Argentina\u201d) and the Sunday in Buenos Aires, when\u00a0\u201cTe\u00a0amar\u00e9\u201d\u00a0became silence:\u00a0\u201cIt was listening to Silvio recite and sing; his desire to give us that song. One of the best memories I take with me.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubico-2025-14-1366x922.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1366\" height=\"922\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Juan Sotelo Navarro, a 60-year-old Chilean, owes his discovery of the singer-songwriter to his wife during their courtship, more than four decades ago. Since then, he says, his work has\u00a0accompanied\u00a0him,\u00a0\u201ceven in those years\u00a0\u2018my dog\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u200b\u200b<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">would look for me at his door when I got lost.\u2019\u201d\u00a0Her emotional response has a title:\u00a0\u201cI was moved every time I heard\u00a0\u2018La era\u00a0est\u00e1\u00a0pariendo\u00a0un\u00a0coraz\u00f3n\u2019.\u00a0It was one of the first\u00a0\u2018strange\u2019\u00a0songs I heard in my youth. I tried to decipher how that infernal guitar could sound like that. I cried every time I heard it.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Another perspective, born from both research and affection, came from Puerto Rico.\u00a0Limar\u00ed\u00a0Rivera R\u00edos, 42, author of\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Silvio Rodr\u00edguez.\u00a0Po\u00e9tica\u00a0del amor\u00a0revolucionario<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, traveled to Buenos Aires driven by a constellation of dates:\u00a0\u201cOn October 21st, my husband and I\u00a0were\u00a0celebrating\u00a0twenty years together and the presentation of my book in Argentina was approaching.\u201d\u00a0At the concert, she confesses,\u00a0\u201cI broke down,\u00a0almost cathartically, with\u00a0\u2018Ala de\u00a0colibr\u00ed\u2019.\u201d\u00a0And she cherishes an image of the silence:\u00a0\u201cThe solemn and perfect reading of the poem\u00a0\u2018Halt!\u2019\u00a0encapsulated everyone\u2019s profound respect.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubic-2025-5-1366x909.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1366\" height=\"909\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubico-2025-4-1366x1050.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1366\" height=\"1050\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For Carlos Alberto Maldonado\u00a0Espinaza, a Chilean almost 53, the first spark came at age 12 with\u00a0\u201cDebo\u00a0partirme\u00a0en\u00a0dos\u201d:\u00a0\u201cIt was like a blow to the head, and from then on the journey hasn\u2019t stopped.\u201d\u00a0He followed the tour from Havana, the four concerts in Santiago, Lima, and\u00a0he\u00a0already has tickets for Medell\u00edn and Cali.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0surprised by the nuances of the audience:\u00a0\u201cSome sing along\u00a0more,\u00a0others shout more. Everywhere there were people of all ages, and I love seeing so\u00a0much\u00a0youth.\u201d\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0one moment that always resonates with him: the reading of the poem\u00a0\u201cHalt,\u201d\u00a0by Luis Rogelio Nogueras.\u00a0\u201cWhat I felt differently was what has been happening to me with the poem.\u201d\u00a0What unites the audiences, he believes, is that\u00a0\u201cthey see Silvio as a balm for these atrocious times.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Even in Buenos Aires,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/canaldigital\/galerias\/por-el-camino\/silvio-en-buenos-aires-la-noche-mas-dificil-el-concierto-mas-amoroso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">when his voice gave out one night<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the scene was telling.\u00a0Pilar Faccio, from Argentina, remembers it as a tacit\u00a0pact:\u00a0\u201cWhen\u00a0it seemed he\u00a0couldn\u2019t\u00a0give any more, he sang\u00a0\u2018Ojal\u00e1\u2019.\u00a0During each pause, there was\u00a0a heavy\u00a0silence, as if everyone were holding their breath. When the audience started singing along, the verses sounded as if from a single body.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cEva\u201d\u00a0resonates deeply with Pilar, different each time depending on who she sings it with\u00a0\u2014\u00a0her mother, a friend, a stranger:\u00a0\u201cThe struggle isn\u2019t the same for everyone, but there\u2019s a voice that speaks to us all.\u201d\u00a0For her, being at a Silvio Rodr\u00edguez concert\u00a0\u201cis belonging to something bigger than yourself.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1081px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubico-2025-12-1081x1366.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1081\" height=\"1366\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The intimate epic of this tour is also expressed in trips that overflow the schedule. Angie Beatriz Morales Jorquera, from Chile, traces its origins to a university cassette tape, during the dictatorship:\u00a0\u201cMy second mother made me listen to\u00a0\u2018Imag\u00ednate\u2019.\u00a0Since then, not a single day has gone by without his music.\u201d\u00a0Each concert,\u00a0she says, stirs\u00a0her\u00a0emotions:\u00a0\u201cEven though we know the lineup, each performance has its own magic. All my emotions just flow, often to the point of tears.\u201d\u00a0In Lima,\u00a0she experienced a powerful outpouring:\u00a0\u201cIt was an outpouring of friendship, hugs and tears because so many of my dearest friends were there together.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Colombia\u00a0perhaps provided\u00a0the most vivid adventure on the emotional map. Sergio Giovanny Fl\u00f3rez and Mar\u00eda Alejandra Palacio, both 32, decided to turn their fear of not getting tickets into a continental journey: Havana, Santiago, Buenos Aires,\u00a0Montevideo\u00a0and Lima.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cLet\u2019s secure the tickets, even if it\u2019s in some random country,\u201d\u00a0they told each other. They ended up putting together a budget trip, selling scarves in each city to finance lodging and meals. The music, they say, narrated the present of each place: Palestine, Pepe Mujica, Chilean history, the problems of each country.\u00a0\u201cThe same songs have a different social and emotional charge in each square,\u201d\u00a0Sergio explains.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubico-2025-2-1366x893.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1366\" height=\"893\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Their\u00a0personal anthems were\u00a0\u201cTe\u00a0amar\u00e9\u201d,\u00a0which played at\u00a0their\u00a0wedding, and\u00a0\u201cEl\u00a0necio\u201d:\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s\u00a0where our scarf\u00a0\u2018Yo\u00a0me\u00a0muero\u00a0como\u00a0viv\u00ed\u2019\u00a0comes from. That dignity to take on challenges without hurting anyone.\u201d\u00a0Three scenes sealed the journey: a scarf given to Silvio in Havana; another autographed and returned in Uruguay; and, in Lima, the van stopped by Silvio, Malva and Niurka to thank them:\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019ve seen us at every concert,\u201d\u00a0they told them.\u00a0\u201cThat the artist recognizes the effort shows Silvio\u2019s humanity and passion,\u201d\u00a0says Mar\u00eda.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubic-2025-4-1366x861.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1366\" height=\"861\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At\u00a0this\u00a0point,\u00a0the\u00a0inventory\u00a0of\u00a0songs\u00a0\u2014\u00a0\u201cLa era est\u00e1 pariendo un coraz\u00f3n\u201d,\u00a0\u201cAla de colibr\u00ed\u201d,\u00a0\u201cEl necio\u201d,\u00a0\u201cTe amar\u00e9\u201d,\u00a0\u201cEva\u201d,\u00a0\u201cTe recuerdo Amanda\u201d,\u00a0\u201cSantiago de Chile\u201d,\u00a0\u201cYolanda,\u201d\u00a0\u201cOjal\u00e1\u201d,\u00a0\u201cEscaramujo\u201d,\u00a0\u201cVenga la esperanza\u201d\u00a0\u2014\u00a0tells\u00a0as\u00a0much\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0map.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">They are titles, yes, but\u00a0above all they\u00a0are keys that each person uses to open their own door. So is\u00a0\u201cHalt!\u201d,\u00a0a poem read by Silvio with a pause that the audience respects as if it were a prayer. And there are the tributes to Pablo Milan\u00e9s, Vicente\u00a0Feli\u00fa, Noel Nicola; names that, though absent, remain present.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">What did I learn by looking at the audience as much as, or even more than\u00a0at\u00a0the stage? That the tour\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0just reunite a\u00a0singer-songwriter\u00a0with his people: it reunites people with themselves. That each stop and each country\u00a0adds\u00a0a layer\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Chilean history, Cuban faith, Argentine memory, Uruguayan gratitude, Peruvian emotion, the Colombian heartbeat\u00a0\u2014\u00a0and yet, the common denominator appears naturally and fluidly: respect, hope, community. Also, that concert after concert, networks of affection, so necessary today, are woven.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/pubic-2025-1366x793.jpg\" alt=\"Photo:\u00a0Kaloian.\u00a0\" width=\"1366\" height=\"793\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Kaloian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At the end of each night, when the ovation stretches out and he takes his bow with that mixture of modesty and tenderness, something lingers, vibrating beyond the last chord and verse.\u00a0Perhaps it\u2019s\u00a0what each person in the audience expresses in different words: the certainty that his poetry, set to music, has\u00a0accompanied\u00a0us as we grew,\u00a0loved\u00a0and endured; that it\u00a0remains\u00a0essential. In noisy times, beauty\u00a0\u2014\u00a0that beauty that summons us without distance\u00a0\u2014\u00a0can still unite us.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The tour continues. People will keep arriving with scarves, with inherited cassettes, with daughters\u00a0named for\u00a0songs, with the memory of their first listening\u00a0still fresh even decades later.
