It\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0in its opulent origins, back in the early decades of the 20th century, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0even less so now, when the overwhelming weight of the crisis has accentuated the city\u2019s decline.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Heart of the\u00a0bright and colorful\u00a0Miramar neighborhood, this two-lane\u00a0avenue\u00a0with a median\u00a0promenade\u00a0is an exceptional face of the Cuban capital. With its mansions,\u00a0gardens\u00a0and parks, it presents an image that contrasts sharply with\u00a0the vast majority of\u00a0spaces,\u00a0buildings\u00a0and neighborhoods in Havana.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1140px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5ta-Avenida-Mirarmar_Otma_18.jpg\" alt=\"Clock tower on Fifth Avenue in Miramar, Havana. It was also a key element in the urbanization of that area.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Not only is it one of the city\u2019s most beautiful avenues, but also one of its longest. Its route begins at the tunnel that connects it to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/tag\/vedado-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Vedado<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202fand officially extends to the beginning of the Santa Fe district, where it becomes the Pan-American Highway. The design of its most renowned section involved\u00a0the participation of\u00a0the\u00a0U.S.\u00a0architect John F. Duncan, who is the creator of two of its most emblematic features: the Fountain of the Americas,\u00a0located\u00a0at its entrance, and the famous clock tower.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Although this\u00a0Havana avenue\u00a0has not been inhabited by the bourgeoisie that populated it in its early days for many years, nor has it been able to completely escape the signs of deterioration, it\u00a0remains\u00a0an exceptional area in the Cuban capital and in the country\u2019s landscape.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1140px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5ta-Avenida-Mirarmar_Otma_23.jpg\" alt=\"Fountain of the Americas, on Fifth Avenue in Miramar, Havana. Over time, hotels, shops,\u00a0restaurants\u00a0and private businesses also\u00a0emerged,\u00a0maintaining\u00a0an exclusive atmosphere compared to the streets overflowing with garbage and dilapidated buildings that proliferate in the rest of the city.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This Sunday, photojournalist\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=otmaro+rodr%C3%ADguez+oncubanews&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Otmaro Rodr\u00edguez<\/span><\/b><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0brings us closer to its\u00a0initial\u00a0section, the one that appears just after passing through the tunnel and extends for several perfectly straight and aligned blocks before reaching La Copa, near 40th Street, through his photographs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1140px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/5ta-Avenida-Mirarmar_Otma_17.jpg\" alt=\"Old mansion on Fifth Avenue in Miramar, Havana.
