The Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase was inaugurated on Sunday till November 2 in Santiago de Cuba, with a screening of Franco-Haitian movie Toussaint Louverture and a commitment to the cultural identity of the region, in the words of Rigoberto Lopez, President of this project praised by UNESCO.
\nThe remodeled cinema Cuba in Enramadas Street, \u00a0main artery of the city and other areas that are just beginning to recover, host documentaries, cartoons, short films and feature films; and an exhibition of children’s titles.
\nThe Showcase is an opportunity for little favored by the international distribution networks of exceptional cinematography and between works include Calypso Rose (Pascale Pence, Trinidad Tobago) Happiness Elsa (Mariette Monpierre, France-Guadalupe), Swallow! (Frank E. Flowers, Cayman Islands) and Rain (Maria Govan, Bahamas).<\/p>\n
Also, viewers can approach the spiritual world of the ancient Saint Domingue and the difficult contemporary circumstances, through Black Soul (Martine Chartrand, Haiti-Canada) and Loves of a Zombie (Arnold Antonin, Haiti-USA).<\/p>\n
In this journey through the legacy and current art of Caribbean peoples, Dominican Republic is represented by the Tropic of Blood (John Delancer) and Of men and gods (Anne Lescot and Laurence Magloire) while from Colombia comes the short-film The color doesn\u2019t make the thief.<\/p>\n
For its part, will be an opportunity to remember titles of cinema in Cuba as the cartoon 20 years (Barbaro Joel Ortiz) and the documentary I am from the son tothe salsa and the unique history of Scented Oak, both creations by Rigoberto Lopez.<\/p>\n
The Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase has toured various geographies since its founding in 2006 and is hosted this time by the eponymous Office, in collaboration with the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in the territory and Provincial Film Center.<\/p>\n
Its constant aim is to contribute to the visibility of Caribbean cinema and knowledge of multiculturalism in this area around the world. The Showcase is a gift that welcomes the celebrations for the 500 years of the city of Santiago de Cuba.<\/p>\n
Under the direction of Philippe Nang and performed by renowned Haitian Actor Jimmy Jean-Louis, the film that was chosen to open the showcase is a journey through the life of Fran\u00e7ois Dominique Toussaint Louverture (1743-1803), legendary leader of the Haitian Revolution against French colonial power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
