{"id":56771,"date":"2015-10-18T07:39:43","date_gmt":"2015-10-18T11:39:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/oncubamagazine.com\/?p=56771"},"modified":"2015-10-18T07:39:43","modified_gmt":"2015-10-18T11:39:43","slug":"what-to-see-at-the-16th-havana-theater-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/styles-trends\/technologies-of-communication-and-media\/what-to-see-at-the-16th-havana-theater-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"What to see at the 16th Havana Theater Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Havana\u2019s busiest week for theatre fans (October 22-31) brings 37 foreign plays and 13 by national troupes this year.<\/p>\n<p>The 16<sup>th<\/sup> Havana Theater Festival will open with <em>Charenton<\/em>, directed by Flora Lauten and staged by the Buendia Theater Company.<\/p>\n<p>This year the festival will be paying tribute to the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Buendia Theater Company, as well as to the work of British theatre director Peter Brook.<\/p>\n<p>The academic section of the festival will begin with the screening of the documentary film <em>Tell me lies<\/em>, directed by Simon Brook, son of Peter Brook, and will continue with lectures on theatre direction and the role of theatre in today\u2019s world.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the must see in the international program are <em>Ave Maria. Death feels lonely<\/em>, by Odin Teatret, from Denmark, directed by Eugenio Barba; and Heiner Muller\u2019s <em>I <\/em><em>didn&#8217;t kill myself<\/em> yesterday <em>because of you, <\/em><em>by Teatro de Konstanz, directed by Rogelio Orizondo<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Other interesting options are <em>Writing in sand<\/em>, by FUNDarte, from the United States; <em>The consecration of Spring<\/em>, by She She Pop, Germany; <em>Ub\u00fa on the table<\/em>, by Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la pire esp\u00e8ce, Canada; and <em>Glory Box<\/em>, by Finucane and Smith, Australia.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot forget to mention the Montecalo Ballet Company from Monaco, which will be presenting <em>Cinderella<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Standing out in the selection of Cuban plays are <em>Triunfadela<\/em>, by El Ciervo Encantado; <em>Mechanics<\/em>, by Argos Teatro<em>; Love story in a baroque neighborhood<\/em>, and <em>The impossible-to-represent journey of Buster Keaton<\/em>, by Teatro de las Estaciones.<\/p>\n<p>Other good options are <em>Cuban Coffee by Portazo\u00b4s Cooperative<\/em>, by Teatro El Portazo, and <em>Women from the Moon<\/em>, by Teatro de la Luna directed by Ra\u00fal Mart\u00edn; <em>Teresa<\/em>, by Teatro Buendia and work in progress <em>Harry Potter: Magic is Gone<\/em>, a new play by Teatro el Publico, directed by Carlos Diaz.<\/p>\n<p><em>Return to Havana<\/em>, a co-production by Buendia and Ingenio Teatro from the United States, based on a play by Raquel Carri\u00f3 will be presented under the direction of Flora Lauten and Lilliam Vega, featuring actress Susana Perez.<\/p>\n<p>The festival also includes film screenings in tribute to Peter Brook, photo, engraving and poster exhibits, and a passacaglia down the Malecon promenade from La Punta to Belascoain Street on Sunday October 25.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/CARTEL-e14450314671631.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56776 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/CARTEL-e14450314671631.jpg\" alt=\"CARTEL-e1445031467163\" width=\"755\" height=\"1057\" srcset=\"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/CARTEL-e14450314671631.jpg 755w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/CARTEL-e14450314671631-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/CARTEL-e14450314671631-731x1024.jpg 731w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 755px) 100vw, 755px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Havana\u2019s busiest week for theatre fans (October 22-31) brings 37 foreign plays and 13 by national troupes this year.
