The United States voted against the resolution that Cuba presents every year at the UN General Assembly demanding the end of the U.S. embargo, as had been announced previous to the vote by a government official in statements<\/a> to AP.<\/p>\n

As every time over the last few years, the resolution was overwhelmingly supported by UN member nations, with 191 votes in favor, and only 2 against: the United States and Israel. There were no abstentions.<\/p>\n

An article published by AP before the vote explained that the reason behind the decision is that the draft in its current form doesn\u2019t \u201cfully reflect\u201d the new spirit of engagement between the two countries.<\/p>\n

The resolution<\/a> drawn up by the Cuban diplomats includes a critical analysis of the measures taken by Washington in connection with the embargo in 2015, and a list of 13 things the U.S. president could do, without need for congressional approval, to modify the embargo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
