{"id":9698,"date":"2013-06-13T16:12:33","date_gmt":"2013-06-13T16:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oncubamagazine.com\/?p=9698"},"modified":"2013-06-13T16:12:33","modified_gmt":"2013-06-13T16:12:33","slug":"the-travelling-caribbean-film-showcase-unique-and-diverse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oncubanews.com\/en\/culture\/the-travelling-caribbean-film-showcase-unique-and-diverse\/","title":{"rendered":"The Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase: unique and diverse"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Giving\u00a0more visibility to\u00a0the\u00a0Caribbean\u00a0cinema, obviated\u00a0by audiovisual\u00a0production and distribution\u00a0hegemonic centers,\u00a0has been one of the\u00a0main\u00a0objectives\u00a0of the Travelling\u00a0Caribbean Film Showcase\u00a0inits effort to preserve\u00a0and encourage the dissemination\u00a0of<br \/>\nvisual\u00a0memory\u00a0of this region and\u00a0its cultural riches: very\u00a0unique and diverse.<\/div>\n<div>Thus,\u00a0Havana\u00a0displays, from\u00a0June 12 to 17, the program\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a05<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0edition of this sample-made up by 21 filmic\u00a0creations-\u00a0which\u00a0has already been presented\u00a0this year\u00a0in countries such as Belize,\u00a0SaintBarthelemy, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, St. Vincent and<br \/>\nGrenadines,\u00a0Colombia\u00a0and\u00a0Venezuela.<\/div>\n<div>Among the top proposals\u00a0are\u00a0\u00a8Le bonheur\u00a0d&#8217;Elsa\u00a8\u00a0(2011),\u00a0debut\u00a0of\u00a0Guadeloupe\u00b4s\u00a0writer\u00a0and director\u00a0Mariette\u00a0Monpierre, \u00a81912\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Voices for\u00a0a silence\u00a0Chapter 1\u00a8\u00a0(2010),<br \/>\ndocumentary directed by\u00a0Cuban\u00a0filmmaker\u00a0Gloria\u00a0Rolando\u00a0and\u00a0Franco-Haitian\u00a0multi-awarded film \u00a8\u00a0Toussaint\u00a0Louverture\u00a8\u00a0(2012), by\u00a0Philippe\u00a0Niang.<\/div>\n<div>The latter\u00a0deals with the\u00a0life\u00a0of the renowned\u00a0and admired\u00a0today as\u00a0the most prominent\u00a0leader\u00a0of Haitian Revolution\u00a0(1791-1804),\u00a0process that led to the establishment of\u00a0the first independent\u00a0Republic of Latin America.\u00a0The film\u00a0reached a\u00a0great reception<br \/>\nwhen it was shown\u00a0on French television.
