The “America" theater in Havana city will host the concerts that the famous Buena Vista Social Club Orchestra with Omara Portuondo will deliver on September 29 and 30.
Buena Vista will offer a de luxe repertoire in these presentations, when the public can enjoy pieces such as: El carretero, El Chan Chan, El Rincón Caliente, Buena Vista en guaguancó, by Arsenio Rodríguez; Bombón de Pollo, a song the great Benny Moré used to sing and El bodeguero, by Richard Egües, among others.
Omara Portuondo’s voice, Jesus "Aguaje" Ramos, director of Buena Vista Social Club said, will be heard on songs have been hits along the time like Tres palabras, La mulata del chachachá, Amigas, Veinte años, Dos gardenias and Quizás, quizás. He further stressed that the America Theatre ballet company will perform in both shows.
Referring to the presence of young musicians in the orchestra, the leader of the Buena Vista Social Club noted that each of them has in his veins the music tradition of figures such as Rubén González, Guajiro Mirabal, Orlando Lopez ‘Cachaíto "and Ibrahim Ferrer.
"We have Rolandito Luna, who, in my opinion is one of our best pianists, Pedro Pablo Gutierrez, who is a Cachaíto follower, and singers Carlos Colunga, who came from the TV program “Buscando el sonero” and Idania Valdes, among others," he explained.
Among the most immediate projects of the band are recording a new album with the British company World Circuit, a label they have worked with since the beginning in 1996. In this phonogram they will include the typical Cuban genres such as son, cha-cha-cha, Danzon and guaracha, but the novelty is that the chosen pieces have never been included in any of the Buena Vista Social Club discs.
On the other hand, Aguaje, who is also a trombonist, arranger and singer, spoke about the tour they will make later this year around Europe. He also said that they plan to perform in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba and the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory, as well as starting a regular club in the Riviera Hotel in Havana.
Also, Ramos explained that they are currently discussing the possibility of having a permanent club in the "America" where the public can enjoy the Cuban music that characterizes this band "We want to rescue spaces for traditional music, so greatly loved in the world, and restore the preference for genres as danzón, bolero and cha-cha-cha to Cuban dancers ".
