Jazz lovers will have from next Sunday an excuse to walk around the Havana’s Sevilla Hotel, which made available to music lovers one of its main halls: La Giralda.
Under the name Jazz in the Sevilla, the new space is a joint initiative of the hotel management and various cultural institutions that seek to get out of a proposed scheme that, with few exceptions, only offers traditional music.
The Sevilla, according to the management of the facility located in the Paseo del Prado in Havana Vieja, has for a long time offered cultural proposals that “get ” to all audiences ; “Therefore, in the specific case of music , we consider the different tastes of our customers and all those who in one way or another are visiting our facility .”
Designed for every Sunday from 8:30 pm until 12:00 am, Jazz in these villa will be hosted throughout the month of May by Gala Mayor, the group headed by percussionist Alejandro Mayor, who have scheduled a special concert for every encounter.
We want every Sunday, the artist said, to be special and different , so we have designed an evening dedicated to the piano, will be the inaugural, and in which we as a guest Emilio Morales ; other wind instruments and voices , and one dedicated to percussion .
For the latter, he said, will have the assistance of very talented young winners of the Jojazz Award in one of its editions, and now part of the list of the most prestigious Cuban jazz groups , as in the case of Rodney Barreto and Yaroldis Abreu , who are active in the Afro – Cuban Messengers of star Chucho Valdés .
“It will be a great opportunity to show the paths of jazz made in Cuba and the quality of their young exponents. We’ll play everything from American jazz in its purest form, to Latin jazz , giving space to the spectacular concerts that the genre allows, and to which are invited all musicians who want to participate. ”
