Ramón Moré can now study in depth the strengths and weaknesses of the first opponent of his boys in the Caribbean Series, as the Naranjeros de Hermosillo won the championship in the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) and thus earned the right to represent its country on Margarita Island.
The seventh game of the final series against the Mayos de Navojoa that was tight until the seventh, when the Naranjeros managed to have a seven-run rally, capped by a three-run homer by Zelous Wheeler. Thus, they again became the winningest Mexico team with 16 titles and three of the LMP Coast League to overcome the Diablos Rojos of the Mexican League Baseball.
For the Caribbean Series, the team will go with the credential of being the first Mexican team to win the Caribbean title in 1976, and they want to repeat the feat by another Mexican team, the Yaquis de Obregon which won last year.
According to ESPN reports, the Naranjero high command announced that lefty pitcher Oliver Perez, infielder Emmanuel Avila and catcher Sebastian Valle are three of the players that will strengthen them to face the tournament. They could also be considering the Cuban outfielder Luis Fonseca, who if elected would join in the roster his compatriot infielder Yunesky Sánchez, right-hander Juan Delgadillo, and center fielder Chris Roberson, three of the players who played for the Mayos in the Final.
With the ticket obtained by Hermosillo all participants to the Caribbean Series are ready, a tournament that is foreshadowed with high quality and competitive spectacle, taking into account the return of a Cuban team after more than fifty years of absence and the international experience of many of the players that make up the contenders.
