There are not enough words to describe the feeling of the public when Corina Mestre takes the stage. Her presence causes an overwhelming feeling
of awe and wonder in the audience, who know in advance that they are to enjoy a fine performance.
Overflowing with experience and talent, Corina is again recognized for her wonderful work. This Friday, the Cuban actress will receive the distinction Espejo de Paciencia (Mirror of Patience), the highest culture recognition in the central province of Camagüey.
This time, Mestre will be honored not only for her superb acting skills, but also for her many contributions to the development of Cuban arts from training talents, which have led her to be considered the mother of art education in the country.
The artist will be honored during the opening ceremony of the XIV National Theatre Festival that have made of this city its permanent venue. During the preparation of the event Mestre served as chairman of the evaluation committee of the works presented in the exhibition.
Corina has left an imprint in artistic creation and in teaching. In 1981 she graduated in Arts at the Arts Higher Institute, a few years later she would return to this institution to share her knowledge with the new generations.
Her educational work has spread throughout the island This is the case of the province of Camagüey to where she travels several times a year to support the programs of action at the Vicentina de la Torre Academy of Arts.
During her more than forty years long career Mestre has played along the greatest of the Cuban stages like Raquel and Vicente Revuelta, Abelardo
Estorino, Hector Quintero, Jose Milian, and others. She has also participated in all time classics like Macbeth and Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding).
Cuban TV fans remember her with special affection for her performances of uncompromising and protective mother in the soap operas La Casa de Bernalda
Alba, Doble Juego and others.
On more than one occasion her performances have earned her the Award for Best Female. She also received the National Culture Distinction and the
Nicolás Guillén Medal. This new award is a source of joy for her students and audience.
