The Cuban doctor Felix Baez Sarria will be released soon according to a statement from the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba, broadcast by the national media.
The press release says Dr. Baez, member of the “Henry Reeve” International Contingent Brigade is mission in Sierra Leone, “has successfully improved”.
“The authorities of the University Hospital of Geneva, where he received treatment at the highest level, confirmed that the testing has confirmed the disappearance of the virus in his body fluids, and he will soon be released,” continues the official note.
And further ensures that when the disappearance of the virus is confirmed “Dr. Felix Baez Sarria will return to Cuba”.
The Ministry of Health thanked the World Health Organization, the governments of Sierra Leone and Switzerland as well as health workers involved in his treatment. It also reiterated its gratitude to the millions of people of Cuba and the world inside and outside Cuba that expressed their solidarity and wished recovery for the Cuban doctor.
Dr. Báez Sarría lives in Havana and is father to two children, the youngest of one year and eight months. His infection with Ebola virus occurred in mid-November and he immediately had first level treatment in Switzerland.
