Recording a new album is the most important project in the short term the Buena Vista Social Club, the Cuban group of world-renowned traditional music, undertakes these days.

Jesus "Aguaje" Ramos, head of the legendary group, explained that the CD, as yet unnamed, will keep the line of work they had when they included national culture icons as Ruben Gonzalez, Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo and Pio Leyva.

They will present the typical Cuban genres such as son, cha cha, Danzon and guaracha among others, but what is new are the songs, never before included in any of the Buena Vista albums, he said.

The recording will be with the British World Circuit label, which they have worked with since its inception in 1996, he said.

Ramos, trombonist, arranger and singer, also announced the return of the group to Cuban stages with two concerts in Havana’s America Variety Theatre on September 29 and 30.

In those concerts evenings they will feature diva Omara Portuondo, who will sing Cuban song hits as 20 años, Amigas, Tres palabras y Quizás, Quizás.

"We want to rescue spaces for traditional music, so much in vogue around the world, and restore Cuban dancers’ preferences for genres as danzón, bolero and cha cha "said the artist.

In the immediate future, Ramos advanced the intention of the orchestra to offer a series of concerts in Santiago de Cuba, opening a club at Havana Riviera Hotel, and a presentation on the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory as part of its regular music tours throughout schools.

He also referred to the tour for the final months of the year through Europe, the continent where they enjoy great acceptance by the public.
