Songs versus Hurricanes

Cuban musicians join the solidarity campaign towards the inhabitants of Cuban eastern provinces affected by Hurricane Sandy as they know that the songs are also useful to take pain away and give a little joy.

This is the case of Ricardo Leyva, Cuban composer, arranger and record producer who runs the Sur Caribe orchestra. This renowned musician has composed the theme “No estoy solo” (“I am not alone") to the inhabitants of Santiago as a way to send them a message of love and hope.

This is also a song of solidarity for the people of Guantanamo and Holguin, as his author expressed to Cuban media, because the people of these territories are also recovering from the havoc caused by the hurricane.

The song was recorded in EGREM studios and is part of the first actions performed by Cuban artists to help people of the eastern provinces. Leyva was accompanied on the recording by a group of popular musicians who wanted to collaborate on this beautiful effort that already has a video clip.

Participants are Buena Fe, Pedrito Calvo, Cesar -Pupy-Pedroso, Juan Guillermo, Jorge Leliebre (flutist of Los Van Van), Kola Loka, Eliades Ochoa, Waldo Mendoza, Angel Bonne, and Christian and Rey from the group Pachito y sus Kini Kini.

The ultimate purpose of these artists is making a massive concert in Havana to raise funds to be donated to the recovery of Santiago de Cuba, the most affected province by Hurricane Sandy.

Thus, two of the country’s most popular orchestras, Los Van Van and Elito Revé y su Charangón, unable to offer a concert in Santiago de Cuba since there are not the minimum conditions as of yet for such an endeavor, gave two concerts in the capital, Juan Formell with his group at El Sauce cultural center in and Elito in La Tropical, whose funds were also donated for the recovery actions.
