Late but fully deserved Cuba increases by one its medal harvest at the London Olympic Games. The discus thrower from westernmost Pinar del Rio province Yarelis Barrios will receive her bronze medal after the doping case of silver medallist Russian Darya Pischalnikova was confirmed.

The Russian athlete was facing an investigation for having given positive in one test before the Olympic Games. As RUSADA (Russian Anti-Doping Agency) reports, the suspension takes effect from October 31 of in and it was decreed after they found positive indications of the presence of anabolic steroids in a test performed on May 20 of the present year.

Pishchalnikova had already served three years of sanction for a similar problem between 2008 and 2011, for all that, this new incident might mean the possibility of being suspended for life. At the moment, the Russian Federation has not been pronounced what penalty will be adopted with regard to this case.

After the suspensions on the part of the RUSADA of the thrower Ikonnikov Kirill two days ago, and of Svetlana Krivelyova on Wednesday, now it ends with Pishchalnikova, aweek in which three Russian athletes have been punished for doping scandals.

The medal table of the Games XXX Olympian at the disc throuwing event will stay the following way: Gold – Sandra Perković (69,11), Plata-Li Yanfeng (67,22) and Bronze – Yarelis Barrios (66,38).

Thus, this is the second Olympic medal for Barrios, after the silver medal she won in Beijing 2008.
