Cuban rock musicians and foreign bands attending the 7th edition of Brutal Fest International Festival will honor Nick Babeu, leading singer of Canadian punk band Trigger Effect, who died in late November last year.
In a journey through the main Cuban metal strongholds, the groups attending the appointment will remember the missing singer at the concerts taking place from February 13 to 23, which is, unequivocally, the most consistent initiative of this genre in the country, David Chapet, representative of French record label Brutal Beatdown Records in Cuba, one of the event organizers, told OnCuba.
Foreign presence is marked by European bands, mainly from Switzerland such as: Meltdown, No Sun In San Francisco and Algebra, to which we must add the French band The Prestige, and Canada ’s Chariots of the Gods .
While Combat Noise, Switch, Darkness Fall, Zeus, Arrabio and Tragedy will represent the host country. This winter version of the Brutal Fest will start by one of the main squares of metal music in Cuba: Santa Clara on Thursday 13 to then continue at Holguín (Saturday 15), Santiago de Cuba (Sunday 16), Camaguey (Tuesday 18), Trinidad ( Wednesday 19), Havana (Friday 21 and Saturday 22 at Maxim Rock Theatre), and shall end on Sunday 23 in Artemisa.
The good news, Chapet added , go beyond the concerts, with the launch of a compilation album of three Cuban rock n ‘roll bands, which will be released by Brutal Beat Down Records.
The CD includes tracks from Switch, Darkness Fall, and Arrabio; the first two belonging to the catalog of the Cuban Rock Agency.
Through this first chapter of the Brutal Fest in 2014, a new cycle begins for the Cuban metal, which has seen its course marked in recent times by a number of drawbacks that many think will be overcome by the new leadership of the Cuban Rock Agency, now in charge of the legendary Maria Gattorno, one of the biggest defenders of the genre and creator of the beloved Patio de María in 1987, a place that for many years was a refuge and home of Cuban rockers.
