This Thursday Cuban Yarisley Silva jumped 4.78 meters in the 40th Stockholm Gala, Sweden, the last meeting of the winter indoor circuit of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), and registered the best mark of the season, and at the same she established a new Central American record for women pole vault.
The first competitors began jumping over 4.00 and 4.25 meters, but in her first attempt, Yarisley flew over the bar at 4.45 meters, which is the 3rd highest mark reached in the Ericsson Globe Arena, the venue of this event.
Then, the silver medalist of the Olympic Games London 2012, renounced to 4.55 and, after a failed attempt, she exceeded 4.64, which was followed by the winning vault.
Yarisley, 25, tried to improve this result, but she failed three times with 4.81 that would have earned her a place among women (the list includes seven) with vaults over 4.80, taking into account both in and outdoor competitions.
Russian Anastasya Savchenko ranked second with 4.71, her personal best, and Czech Republic´s Jirina Svobodova-Ptacnikova, finalist in the last Olympic Games, was third with 4.64 meters.
Holly Breasdale, British who owned since February 9th the previous best mark of the season (4.77), could not reach the podium (4.45) in Stockholm, and thus, her particular duel with the Cuban is now tied at two victories apiece.
To Yarisley, this was her best performance of the year, since she exceed in two centimeters her personal best made less than 15 days ago in Donetsk, Ukraine, she grabbed four scepters, a second place and a bronze medal in her European tour .
