This week main course is, of course, the International Havana Film Festival in its 39th edition already. Time flies right! Well, during the Festival we’ll be in more than 12 movie theaters so you can see more and more movies. The opening will be tonight and a Brazilian film was the chosen one for the occasion. Get an invitation… if you can.

Because we don’t want to leave anything out, further down you’ll find much more to do. In Music, the “Elito Revé and Van Van megaconcert”, Athanai in Mella Theater, and more. In Visual Arts, tribute to Wilfredo Lam due to his 115 birth anniversary, and some “Miradas” from France. Finally a lot of FAC proposals as usual, but this time is also in Festival.
The film already begins
Today, at 8 p.m., will be officially inaugurated the 39th International Havana Film Festival in Karl Marx theater. This time presenting the motion picture “El filme de mi vida”, directed by Selton Melo. Watch the trailer here and if you don’t have an invitation run to get it.
Here you have some data and numbers so you know how the Festival will go this year:
In the best motion picture category are competing 19 films. In the Opera Prima category are 18 novel directors; as well as 18 short films. There will be also 23 documentaries, one of the most interesting sections this edition. In the short animated film category will compete 16 films. One of the most expected expos is posters in competence, this time with 25, and will be shown in Chaplin Cinema. Another important section in the festival is the original screenplay competence with 26 projects also Sector Industria is preparing a trivial show to James Ivury witch includes a lecture with the American director.
Besides the films in the cinemas the festival always brings a lot of more activities for you to go, such as press conference, books and magazines presentations, master classes, exhibition, lecture, panels and much more.

Two Legends, one concert

Twenty years in a row
Athanai will perform in the unique concert in Mella theatre, Tuesdays 12, at 8.30 p.m. Guests will be Haydée Milanés, Kelvis Ochoa, Adrian Berazaín, Jorgito Kamankola and Carlos Varela.
After the successful concert “Athanai está en la casa” in Che Guevara hall of Casa de las Américas, the singer songwriter and producer Athanai is closing the year with this unique concert in Mella, a theatre opening its doors for the first time in a long period to a Cuban rock artist. The show, within the activities of the Havana Film Festival, will be also a go back to 20 years of artistic life.
Telmary in Calle Ocho
Today at 11 p.m., Telmarys in concert in Cuba Ocho and Research Center. Book now if you haven’t. Shake it with a Cuban rhythm.
José María Vitier and guests
This Sunday, at 5 p.m., José María Vitier in concert in Martí Theater. Will join him Dagoberto González (violín), Otto Santana (drums), Abel Acosta (drums and bass), and Nicolás Sirgado (guitar and bass). Also the special performance of Marcos Madrigal (piano).

115 Aniversary of Wilfredo Lam
As a tribute to Wilfredo Lam, the Contemporary Art Center, named after him, invites today, at 2 p.m., to the presentation and sale of books: “Prácticas Artísticas e Imaginarios Sociales. Evento Teórico Oncena Biena de La Habana” (Various authors) and “Bienal de La Habana. Palabras Críticas: 1984-2010” by Israel Castellanos. Later, at 4 p.m., will be inaugurated the tribute-exhibit “Wilfredo Lam. Iluminado por dentro”.
Miradas from France
Today, at 6 p.m., you can see in the Jean Valjean Room of Casa Victor Hugo the expo “Miradas” of the French photographer Jean Querbes, member of the association Cuba Cooperación Francia. The expo is about emotions, memories, life experiences, feelings of the artist through this creative exchange.
Talking to Leandro
Because of the expo “Yo no hablo con fotógrafos” by artist Leandro Feal, the gallery Servando Cabrera invites to participate in a discussion with the artist tomorrow, at 4 p.m. The curator and academic Iván de la Nuez and the exhibit curator Abel Gónzalez will be also there.
