More than 90 performances have been programmed for the 14th National Theater Festival of Camagüey 2012 that will take place next September 8-15.
The venues of this event will be the theaters Principal, El Viento, Tassende, Avellaneda and of the Academy Vicentina de la Torre, as well as the halls of Guiñol de Camagüey (puppet theater), La Edad de Oro and the recently inaugurated Virgilio Piñera hall.

Nubes azules (Blue Clouds) and Canción para estar contigo (A Song to Be with You), by Teatro Papalote, from the province of Matanzas; Narices (Noses), by Teatro Tuyo, from the province of Las Tunas; Blancanieves (Snow White), by Los Cuenteros, from the province of Artemisa; and Mowgli, el mordido por los lobos (Mowgli, bit by the Wolves), from Teatro La Proa, from Havana, the capital, are some of the children’s shows that will be presented during the Festival.

Stagings that were successful when first presented are now brought back to the stage in Camagüey during this Festival, which offers an opportunity to measure the health of Cuban theater. Works like La gran Tirana (The Great Tyrant), by Teatro Trotamundo, from the capital; the cycle Tres estaciones de Estorino (Three Seasons of Estorino), by Teatro D´Dos, also from Havana; Hojas de papel volando (Flying Sheets of Paper), by Estudio Teatral de Santa Clara; La hora del té (Tea Time), by Teatro del Viento, from Camagüey; Iniciación en blanco y negro (Initiation in Black and White), by Estudio Teatral Macubá, from Santiago de Cuba, and El dragón de oro (The Golden Dragon), by Teatro de La Luna, among others, will be presented on this occasion.

On the otherhand, Un jesuita de la literatura (A Jesuit of Literature) and El Trac (The “Trac”), both by Teatro El Público; Dos viejos pánicos (Two Old Panics), by Teatro A dos manos; La boca (The Mouth), by Teatro El Taller, and Aire Frío (Cold Air), by Argos Teatro, make up the Virgilio Piñera cycle organized by the Festival.

The street shows Gente de barro (Clay People) and La palangana vieja (The Old Washbowl), by the groups Morón Teatro and El Mirón Cubano, respectively, will also participate.

Furthermore, a trio of young creators will present their works: La mujer de carne y leche (The Woman of Flesh and Milk), by Proyecto MLC; Antigonón, un contingente épico (Antigonón, an Epic Contingent), by Teatro El Público, and Por gusto (For No Reason), by Teatro El Portazo.

It is interesting to know that the Camagüey Festival will not grant prizes on this occasion, since the organizers consider it sufficient acknowledgment to attend the meeting.

The public will have the possibility to enjoy a concert by singer Ivette Cepeda and the performance of the Endedans Contemporary Ballet ensemble.
The awarded show Reír es una cosa muy seria (To Laugh is a Very Serious Thing), by Centro Promotor del Humor, will be presented on the opening night.
