If you are a foreigner resident in Cuba or visiting the island, you may activate a cell phone line that will allow you to use your telephone for local and international calls during your visit. To apply for this service as a foreign resident, you must present your permanent or temporary residency documents; as a visitor, you must present your passport.
You may request your line at ETECSA retail offices, and the activation fee is 30.00 CUC, plus a 10.00 CUC minimum for prepaid minutes. You have 60 days to use the balance on your cell phone, independently of the amount. The validation period for your balance begins the moment you enter your access code from a prepaid card, which may be purchased at ETECSA retail offices and other retail establishments throughout the country, including stores, post offices and markets.
