The V Leo Brouwer Festival of Chamber Music reaches its last days. It will be on Sunday at the conclusion of the event that each year facilitates the meeting between the Cuban public and nationally and internationally recognized musicians and artists
OnCuba invites its readers to know several of the protagonists of the current edition, as well as their impressions of the Festival and its host Leo Brouwer.
Enrike Solinis: For me it’s an honor to play a piece by Leo Brouwer
Travelling the distance between the Basque Country and Cuba, was nothing to Enrike Solinis compared to the possibility of reuniting with Leo Brouwer and play a piece with his baroque guitar.
Solinis, considered one of the greatest virtuosos of his generation, will give away the Cuban public performances along with Il Delirio Fantastic from France and the Cuban Conjunto de Música Antigua Ars Longa.
“Particularly , for me it means a lot that Leo invited me, because it closes a cycle – for me and for many of the professionals who are dedicated to ancient music – how is opening a new image for a new guitarist. It is a guitarist who breaks the closed circle of the business of classical guitar and breaks the doors and then looks further. I find it an honor that I can play a piece of Leo with baroque guitar, I hope it is better than the classic. “
Silfredo Perez: We have much to learn from this Festival
Since he was a young Venezuelan musician he confessed he was linked to Brouwer : he was his graduate thesis topic at the University of Vienna and one of those responsible for him to now live and work in Europe.
Excited about the event, an event that promises to be a different space designed to enjoy “smart” music, the renowned guitarist acknowledged the influence of Cuba in cultural activities in Latin America and the world.
“Here there is a lot of culture, in an extraordinary range. I’m happy to be here and really admired because this festival is a chair for all the festivals in the world. It is an extraordinary event with an extraordinary repertoire and wonderful cast of artists. We would have to learn a lot of what is happening here”
Edelton Gloeber and Adelia Issa: It is a privilege to bring Brazilian music to this Festival
Starring the show From Sao Paulo to Havana, guitarist Gloeber Edelton and soprano Adelia Issa said they were honored to bring the flavor of Brazil to this V Festival.
“We are honored that our first visit to Cuba by invitation of Leo Brouwer, who has visited us in Sao Paulo to participate in events dedicated to his work. It is the privilege to be who provide Brazilian flavor to this festival. It will be a pleasure. A dream come true. “
Gloeber and Issa , partners in life and in art, performed on Saturday night, works from the Brazilian chamber song, along with the Chamber Orchestra of Havana and the Brazilian quartet Quaternaglia, all under the direction of Maestro Brouwer .
Teresita Paz: Participating in this festival is like being in a lecture
The Conjunto de Música Antigua Ars Longa and its director, Teresa Paz, this time infringe the rules and purposes of the instruments that they work with – created hundreds of years ago and used them to interpret contemporary compositions a “lecture, especially for being led by Master Brouwer “
“Participating in this festival as an artist and as public has particular significance, especially since Leo Brouwer is the integration of many parts of Cuban and universal culture. We always saw it that way, saying Leo Brouwer meant learning, everything, not just the guitar. “
Carlos Alberto “Tin” Cremata: I appreciate the honor of performing with Leo Brouwer
It is a novelty in this V edition the participation of the Children’s Theatre Company The Beehive. Its director, Carlos Alberto “Tin” Cremata, considers it an honor that the whole matter was to interpret Leo Brouwer,-during the final day of the event, two of his works: Varias maneras de hacer música con papel and Castigas del hombre nuevo, in a show dedicated to José Martí.
“It was a great honor that Master Brouwer has called us and which we will perform the 1114th function of Meñique as part of this festival and be led by his baton.”
