The 4th Leo Brouwer Chamber Music Festival, scheduled for October 3-13, has been described by maestro Leo Brouwer as “a colossal edition”. More than twenty world premieres will be interpreted during the celebration in Havana of this event to be attended by more than 145 musicians from eight countries.

Among the guest artists will be Paco Marín (Spanish luthier), the sisters Katia and Marielle Labèque, and Raphael Seguinier, (France); Edin Karamazov (Bosnia), Marco Lo Russo (Italy), Gonzalo Grau (Venezuela), Asteria Ensemble (Holland), B3: Brouwer Trío, Ricardo Gallén Pedro Chamorro and Pedro Mateo (Spain) and Niurka González, Alejandro Martínez, Ernán López-Nussa, Enrique Plá, Gastón Joya, Liuba María Hevia, Vocal Sampling, among others, from Cuba.

Referring to the artists who will take part in the Festival, Brouwer stated: “We have the privilege that great musicians and excellent Cuban musicians will participate. First-class young artists will interpret the best versions; perhaps not the only ones, but indeed the best”.

And precisely that is one of the main targets of the program for the Festival’s fourth edition: to emphasize on “the wonder of sound, the surprise; the new that exists in the daily; we like intelligent music”, explained Brouwer.

“Our policy is not one of figures, it is one of repertoire”, clarified the renowned Cuban guitar player, who assured that “there will be dance, theater, poetry. There will be pilgrimages in the streets with the burning of the Tarasca. Tangos never heard before will be interpreted; among them there will be a solo by Astor Piazolla, narrated and sung by actor Osvaldo Doimeadiós.The Festival will include tributes to musicians, personalities and institutions celebrating anniversaries. Among them will be City Historian Eusebio Leal, on his 70th birthday – an occasion to distinguish him with the Eternal Spiral Prize of Honor granted by the Festival –; chorus director Carmen Collado, also on her 70th birthday; Teatro Lírico Nacional and Radio Enciclopedia for their 50 years of work and Danza Retazos por its 25th anniversary. Also recalled will be the renowned poetess Dulce María Loynaz and Italian Umberto Eco on his 80th anniversary, among other personalities.
