The Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) announced the issuance this year of a new series of printed 200, 500 and 1000 Cuban-peso banknotes.
The watermark (image of Celia Sánchez) on the new banknotes is replaced by the image of the martyr found on the obverse of the banknotes, the note explains.

According to the BCC announcement, the new banknotes will gradually enter into circulation and previous issues of banknotes of the same denomination remain legal tender.
High-denomination banknotes in CUP, with a value of 200, 500 and 1000, started circulating in the country in February 2015.
