The Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV-2016) Program opened at noon today, the October first, 2014 and will close at the same time on November 3rd. In a press release, issued by the spokesman of the office of the Department of State, based in Washington, it specifies that people interested can apply for visas through the Electronic Diversity Visa (E-DV) website at www.dvlottery.state.gov.
The Diversity Immigrant Visa, according to the Office of Interests of the United States in Havana, was approved by the Congress of the United States and offers 55,000 visas (DV’s). It is designed for a random selection among those who meet the eligibility requirements. There is no fee to register for the drawing.
“The Department of State implemented the electronic registration system from the DV-2005 in order to make the process most efficient and safe. We use special technology and other means to identify those who commit fraud for the purpose of emigrating illegally or those with multiple entries for the draw, “says the statement.
Cubans have access to this program since 1990.Last November 2013 concluded the previous call whose results were announced in May 2014 with a total of 1480 visas granted to persons resident in the Island.
The requirements to meet to pursue this type of visa, which is granted by an electronic draw, are:
-National-Eligibility: applicants must be citizens of countries with low rates of immigration or have not sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the past five years. Not eligible for these causes are the natives of Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines , South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
-The Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) Program requires the principal DV applicant to have a high school education, or its equivalent, or two years of qualifying work experience as defined under provisions of U.S. law.
“Paper entries will no longer be accepted. All participants must print and keep their online confirmation after filling up their DV entries to be able to confirm their status. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all application information, including digital photographs, early in the one-month registration period,” the note reads, adding that heavy demand may result in website delays.
The results of the DV 2016 will be announced on May 5, 2014.
