This March 31 the issue of human rights will be on the talks between the US and Cuba, in the new context which is the process of normalization of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Assistant Director-General for Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Foreign Ministry, Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, gave statements to the press on Thursday about what will happen in Washington on Tuesday.

The Foreign Ministry official announced that the Cuban side expects “that the dialogue develops in a constructive environment, on a reciprocal basis, without conditions or discriminatory treatment and full respect for the sovereign equality, independence and non-interference in the internal affairs of the parties “.

“These talks on human rights issues are a sample of Cuba´s willingness to deal with US any subject, despite our differences, based on equality and reciprocity, “he added.

Cuba has made clear it has the “invariable will of both countries to interact civilly in the recognition and respect for these differences.”

The specific points on which they will talk have not been announced, but in the statement of Foreign Ministry stated that the dialogue topics of interest to both countries will be discussed, and that Cuba will present its achievements in the promotion and protection of all human rights not only of his people but also of many nations of the world, with which it has cooperated in areas such as health and education.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry official continued, we will address the concerns we have about the situation of human rights in the United States and elsewhere   this country has a direct impact.

These talks will take place after Cuba proposed to the United States to hold a bilateral human rights dialogue on July 2014. This proposal was reiterated in January 2015, and accepted by the US authorities.
