With the installation of at least six radio bases, access to fourth generation 4G/LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology is advancing in the city of Santa Clara.

So far, 4G coverage radiates the radio bases located in the Telephone Center, the Municipal Government and the Abel Santamaría Complex, as well as those of the Court, the Provincial Assembly of People’s Power and the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

Dianitsy Barreto Martínez, an official at the Cuban Telecommunications Enterprise S.A. (ETECSA) in Villa Clara, said that the nodes to be illuminated are within the ring road, except for three on the Camajuaní highway, the transmitter of the CMHW station, the School City and the Las Villas Marta Abreu Central University.

The specialist stressed that to use the 4G/LTE network the user must have a cell phone in the frequency of 1,800 megahertz band three. The line has to be USIM (three cuts card), which has been marketed by ETECSA for about two years.

In the event clients wish to change their SIM card, they can do so in any of the commercial units of ETECSA in the territory, with an additional cost of three CUC, she said.

Among the advantages of using 4G, she mentioned faster browsing speed. She said that ETECSA’s investment plans in that province for 2020 include the expansion of fourth generation coverage to the most populated municipal capitals.
