The Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Audrey Azoulay, this Thursday highlighted the importance of the Transcultural Project.
Deepening integration within the Caribbean region and strengthening cooperation and exchanges between people, both within the region and between it and the European Union (EU), is the general objective that encourages the implementation of the project.
Its geographical scope covers 17 territories in the region: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
With the execution of this project, for around four years the actors related to the cultural heritage and creative industries of the region will achieve a higher degree of professionalization and will generate new opportunities for socio-economic development and cultural cooperation, both within the Caribbean and between the region and the EU.
To achieve this, the capacities of the cultural and creative industries will be strengthened through the establishment in Cuba of a Regional Center for Cultural Training that will promote the mobility, skills, and abilities of young people and professionals in the cultural and creative sectors.
The project is expected to create opportunities for entrepreneurship, socio-economic projects and collaboration in the cultural and creative, heritage and tourism sectors, within the Caribbean region and with the EU.
