Cuba closed March with 26 new infections, while there were no deaths due to COVID-19, as reported by the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) this Wednesday.

Among the confirmed cases, 25 are Cuban and one is a foreigner (Spain). Of the Cubans diagnosed, 8 had the source of infection outside the country: United States and Mexico (3 each), Chile and Spain (one each); 10 were contacts of confirmed cases and 7 were in contact with travelers from abroad.

Most of the new positive cases are registered in Havana (9), Santiago de Cuba (4), Villa Clara (3) and Camagüey (3), Holguín (2) and Sancti Spíritus (2), Pinar del Río (1) and Las Tunas (1).

Two minors are on the list, a 15-year-old girl in Florida, Camagüey, and a four-month-old baby in Santiago de Cuba. Both have a satisfactory evolution.

A bit of certainty

January 6, 2026

Four critically ill and one seriously ill patient are reported.

The data at the close of March 31, marks the beginning of April with a total of 212 cases and 6 deaths, which is why the government continues to apply containment measures such as those announced this Tuesday on Cuban television.

Throughout the island there are already 2,742 hospitalized patients, of which 1,140 are suspicious and 193 confirmed.

According to Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of Epidemiology of MINSAP, starting this Wednesday, rapid tests will be carried out on all the suspected cases registered to date.

Some 26,278 people are under surveillance in their homes through the primary health care system.

On the other hand, Dr. Durán referred to the news spread yesterday about the quarantine decreed in El Canal People’s Council, in the municipality of Consolación del Sur, an area where around 1,500 people live.

This type of measures can be applied in more extensive areas such as a municipality, and as long as it is in force it limits movements, all public service centers are closed, except the indispensable ones; people remain in their homes and only one person per household is allowed to go out to buy drugs or medicines, the official said.

For the duration of the quarantine, no one enters or leaves the town for fourteen days after the last infection.

As of March 31, 175 countries were reported with COVID-19 cases and 777,799 confirmed cases. The number of deceased was 37,272, with a fatality of 4.79%.

In the region of the Americas 188,743 confirmed cases are reported, 24.2% of the total cases reported in the world, with 3,688 deaths and a fatality of 1.95%.

However, the virus spreads so fast that those figures are already old.
