The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) yesterday announced changes in the price of the internet service it provides to Nauta Hogar users.
As of August 1, customers with a prepaid Nauta Hogar account will be able to surf at 0.50 CUC per hour, but only when they have consumed the 30 hours of the previously contracted package and have a balance in their account.
The company pointed out that this “modality only applies to the accounts associated with Nauta Hogar, so users of this service will be able to navigate more time at any time and from any place after the 30 hours assigned per month have expired,” according to an official note on its website.
In addition, ETECSA published an extensive list of FAQ and their answers, which we reproduce below for further clarification on the subject.
What changes in the Nauta Hogar service?
In that surfing with the Nauta account associated with the Nauta Hogar service changes from 1.00 CUC to 0.50 CUC, once the 30 hours of the contracted package have been consumed and the account associated with the Nauta Hogar service has been recharged.
When does the surfing time start to cost 0.50 CUC?
As of August 1, 2019 at 12:00 a.m. (00:00 h), provided that the 30 hours allocated to the surfing account associated with the Nauta Hogar service have been consumed.
Is the discount at 0.50 CUC for surfing time also for postpaid Nauta Hogar?
- It is only for customers of the prepaid Nauta Hogar service. It does not apply to postpaid Nauta Hogar customers.
Is the discount at 0.50 CUC for surfing time also for Nauta Hogar permanent accounts?
NO, it only applies to the Nauta permanent accounts associated with the prepaid Nauta Hogar service that have already used up the 30 hours allocated per month and have a balance to surf.
Is the discount of 0.50 CUC surfing time for Nauta Hogar accounts a promotion?
- The customers of the prepaid Nauta Hogar service will be able to enjoy this modality permanently, once they have consumed the 30 hours of the contracted package and have a balance in their Nauta account associated with the Nauta Hogar service.
If I connect from other access means with the Nauta Hogar account, can I navigate at 0.50 CUC per hour?
If you connect with the Nauta account associated with prepaid Nauta Hogar, regardless of the means through which you have access to it, whether it is a surfing room, WI-FI wireless area or Nauta Hogar you can enjoy surfing at 0.50 CUC per hour, as long as you have used up the 30 hours allocated in the month and have a balance to surf.
Can I surf at 0.50 CUC per hour from a Nauta Hogar access with a permanent account NOT associated with the service?
- This rate applies only to accounts associated with the prepaid Nauta Hogar service and that have already used up the 30 hours assigned in the month and have a balance to surf.
Do I have to recharge the Nauta account to surf at 0.50 CUC per hour?
You don’t necessarily have to recharge. If you have a balance in your account associated with prepaid Nauta Hogar and you have used up the 30 hours a month, you can surf at 0.50 CUC/hour.
If I already consumed 30 hours and I have no balance in my Nauta Hogar account how can I surf at 0.50 CUC per hour?
You must recharge the Nauta account associated with the prepaid Nauta Hogar service through the established means, which are: Nauta recharge coupons, direct recharges at ETECSA Commercial Offices, Telecommunications Agents and International Distributors.
Does it mean that the recharge coupons, direct and international recharges are sold at half price?
NO, recharges remain at the same price. The decrease to 0.50 CUC per hour of surfing is only for the Nauta accounts associated with the prepaid Nauta Hogar service.

How do Nauta customers in Cuba know they have received an international recharge?
Customers can consult in the Nauta User Portal in the menu “Operations detail” in the option “Recharges” the detail of the date, the time, the amount of the recharge and the means through which it was made. Additionally, the family member or friend who made the recharge can notify you, or you can dial 118, Commercial Information Service.
If I have a balance of 1.00 CUC in my account associated with the Nauta Hogar service, how long can I netsurf?
You can surf for 2 hours, as the surfing rate will be 0.50 CUC/hour. Remember that if this account still has 30 hours of time left, this rate does not apply.
If I have a balance of 1.00 CUC in my account associated with the Nauta Hogar service and I have 30 hours left, how much time can I spend surfing?
You must first use up the remaining time of the 30 hours and then you can surf 2 hours, as the surfing rate will be 0.50 CUC/hour. Remember that if this account still has 30 hours left, this rate does not apply.
Why, when I surf from any access means, the available time is not reflected, taking into account the 0.50 CUC rate?
Although the real available time is not reflected, it does NOT mean that the rate of 0.50 CUC/hour is not being applied. To check it you can go to the Nauta User Portal (www.portal.nauta.cu) in Operations Detail, submenu “Connections” and you can check, for example: if the Time consumed is 02:00:00 (2 hours) then the discounted amount is 1.00 CUC, that is, at a rate of 0.50 per hour. ETECSA makes an effort to show available times in the shortest time in accordance with the price of 0.50 CUC/hour.
How can I verify that my surfing time was applied 0.50 CUC/hour and not 1.00 CUC/hour?
In the Nauta User Portal (www.portal.nauta.cu) in the Operations Detail in the Connections submenu you can verify that, for example, the Time consumed was 01:00:00 (1 hour) and the Amount discounted was 0.50 CUC. Remember that access to the Nauta User Portal is free of charge.
