Strong explosion reported in Marianao

A strong explosion was reported in the Marianao municipality of Havana.

Journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso made a live broadcast, in which he confirmed that there was no human damage, death or wounded.

He said there was only damage to some buildings near the site of the explosion ― still without specifying the exact site ― including a school where there were no students because it was Saturday.

Alonso pointed out that Yamila Lamadrid, governor of the municipality, confirmed that the original cause of the explosion was a fire that started “in the undergrowth.”

The place, said the journalist, is on the border between Marianao and Playa, which explains why the noise was felt in different areas of the city.

Many users reported fire sirens moving through the capital. “The flow of sirens has not stopped, I live near the Carlos J. Finlay Military Hospital and a strong explosion was heard,” an OnCuba reader described on our Facebook account.
