There is no other event in Cuba where playwrights come together, and everything they propose is monologues. There are other meetings, festivals, crusades, but this is the time where people and their works converge so closely, the text and the actor on stage, with nothing mediating between them.
Now the public can know that the Second Festival of Latin American Monologue and Terry Award will run from February 12 to 16 in the city of Cienfuegos, to show the best of its kind in the Cuban drama and the continent.
As headquarters they will have the usual Terry Theater, and the spaces of the rooms A cuesta , Ateneo , Guanaroca , the Provincial Museum, the CEN Theatre and the Jardines de la UNEAC .
The festival will also tour other parts of the country, having as second venues the Bertolt Brecht Cultural Center and the Raquel Revuelta Theatre Hall, in Havana, the Papalote Theatre and Miron Cubano Theatre in Matanzas, the Mejunje Cultural Centre in Villa Clara and some municipalities of Cienfuegos like Cumanayagua and El Jovero .
Every two years since 2003, date of the celebrations for the anniversary of the founding of the Terry Theater-Cienfuegos is the site that hosts the aforementioned one-man stage production where a jury chooses the most representative and interesting ones, and then release and legitimizes it in the national and international territory.
The event also offers puppet shows and street performances, in addition to lectures and workshops.
As indicated by its organizers, the following prizes will be awarded: Female Performance Award and Terry Latin American Award; Male performance and Award for Best Staging and Terry Latin American Playwriting Award and for a text
Among the works that have been brought to the event stand out Emelina Cundeamor, by Eugenio Hernández Espinosa, Death x water, by Norge Espinosa, and The dwarf in the bottle, by Abilio Estévez.
The invitation is already out, and the public can choose whether or not to attend the meeting of the best of the dramatic monologue in Cienfuegos city.
