The “Pianos JoJazz” concert, starring musicians Alejandro Falcon, Alejandro and Jorge Aragon Meroño closed the eighteenth edition of the contest yesterday afternoon at the Lazaro Peña Theater.

Accompanied on bass by Adyan Varona and battery by Oliver Valdés, Alejandro Falcon closing gala began with the rendition of When you need it, by the American jazz musician Thelonious Monk, and Bailando entre puentes, a title of his own.

A selective sample of the jury of the event, made up of musicians Michel Herrera, Emir Santa Cruz, Enrique Plan, Yissy García, Alejandro Falcon, Joel Miró, Rolando Luna, William Roblejo, Juan Carlos Marín, Carlos Miyares and Ruy Lopez Nussa, presented the awards in the categories of Interpretation and Composition.

In the category of Large Interpretation two mentions were awarded to musicians Antonio Guzman Sanz and Tyler John Peterson. The jury determined to leave the first three points of the division deserted. Exceptionally they recognized the work of the young artist Juan Carlos Sánchez Padilla, who accompanied dissimilar formats and deserved the Accompaniment Award.

In Minor Interpretation were awarded in the first place saxophonist Jorge Felix, second bassist Robert West Martin and the third prize was shared by musicians Arthur Luis Álvarez and Jesús Raciel Pupo.

Similarly prizes were awarded for the category of Composition to musicians Eduardo Campos and Rolando Benitez, in first and second place, respectively. The third, also a decision of the jury, was deserted.
