First Act – September 11, 2013, CubaDebate echoes statements to Prensa Latina by Higinio Velez, president of the Cuban Federation of Baseball (FCB by its Spanish acronym) denying contacts with officials of Mexican professional team Cañeros of Los Monchis on possible hiring of Cuban players by that club. Higinio says: “We have not had any contact with any professional team agents” and later he added: “The inclusion of Cuban players in professional leagues is a possibility still under study …”
Public impression: It is being studied, not talked…
Second act- Coincidentally, that same day the official website of Mexican baseball squad Piratas de Campeche publishes the following information: “The recruitment of Cuban international catcher Ariel Pestano … will be essential for the young pitchers who will be playing with the Industriales de Coatzacoalcos in Veracruz Winter League.”
Public impression: It was studied at high speed, thanks to that, talks already began and this is the first result … Pestano to play…
Third act-September 16, new statements by Higinio and collected by Prensa Latina and CubaDebate. In this case he belies the announcement of the Piratas on the recruitment of Las Villas catcher, there is no such agreement. He adds that “a negotiation process will soon begin to assess the possibility of Pestano to perform as catching coach of the organization …”
Public impression: The study had not finished, so they still had not talked … they will talk … perhaps Pestano will be a coach…
Fourth act- September 17, the news of the recruiting of Pestano disappears from the official website of Piratas de Campeche and they published the following: “The FCB analyzes and assesses the approach made by the Campeche Pirates for the great catcher Ariel Pestano to come as coach to Mexico “…” the club has fully left on record the relationship with sports institutions of this great nation that have always been in a frame of transparency, respect and loyalties “…” Today the negotiations with FCB are in a stage of valuations and good finish ” .
Public impression: (I n capital letters) … both sides continue studying … it seems they are talking and all goes well … Pestano increases his chances of being coach…
Fifth act-October 7, the club’s website states: “… Ariel Pestano will wear the jersey of Industriales, but not those from Havana, but from Coatzacoalcos … where soon he will be playing in the Veracruz League … which starts on October 19th …” “he comes to Mexico via Campeche Pirates, a team that has a working arrangement with the Coatzacoalcos Industriales and the buccaneers have sent several young pitchers to that squad in order to them to get more experience for the 2014 Mexican Baseball League (LMB by its Spanish acronym) season.” The site contains also words of Pestano: “My main goal is to come here to work and play hard”
Public impression: The studies finally finished and discussions bear fruit… Pestano will play … ahhh … and I heard that Pedro Luis Lazo shall also be there, would not he ever want to play with Industriales? As you see he got the chance, but in Mexico…
Sixth act: Juventud Rebelde newspaper asked FCB about this new news. The daily notes: “According to FCB, the agreement reached by both parties states that Pestano will start … as coach of the Coatzacoalcos Industriales, but he will also keep training as player. Once the LMB to start, the managers of the Campeche Pirates will assess the assimilation of the training and his shape and could incorporate him as a player on the payroll of the filibusters for the next season. “
Public impression: It seems these people never agree on what they say … and they have studied, discussed and evaluated a lot and their relationships last a lot too … and this is not the first time they do these stuffs… and I’m sure it won’t be the last one … Pestano then will be a trainer … and maybe he will play…
One person of the public: Will it continue? … At least I think this work has been stretched too much to have a very simple plot: the recruitment of a Cuban player by the Pirates … maybe I’m conditioned by the presentations in recent times of one of the actors involved: the Cuban Baseball Federation…
