El cineasta Carlos Barba quiere contar " una historia verdadera" de la realidad cubana/Foto tomada de Stromboli

In the central district of El Vedado filmmaker Carlos Barba shot his first fiction short. 25 hours is his first approach to the genre, and according to what he told OnCuba, it is “an experimental short”.

Broadly speaking, the story is about a woman, Isabel Santos, who returns to the country to care for her father Enrique Pineda Barnet-after several years of absence. “I want to show the reverse process: the person who is coming and misses the foreign country that gave them shelter. A woman, who feels divided, feels love for the two soils; that’s something that can happen, so I set out to show the phenomenon realistically. I would like to talk to this new reality that emerges with new Cuban immigration laws, which have allowed many Cubans that were living abroad to return to their country, “said the director of Humberto (2014).

In addition, Barba said he is not interested in reflecting the misery other materials on Cuba show. “This is the same in work filmed by foreigners in the island than in Cuban materials. I asked the director, Carlos Rafael Solis (Esther somewhere, Gerardo Chijona, Wedding Dress, Marilyn Solaya), an intermediate image, because I didn’t want the extremes. My intention is to achieve a true story. ”

This production “made in home” as Barba describes it, also features a special performance by Alicia Bustamante (Plaff or too afraid of life) and an appearance of young actor Carlos Mendez. Rounding out the staff are Abel Alvarez in production, sound by Ariel Novo, Georgina Aguiar as assistant director and cameraman Juan Carlos Millán.

25 hours, like his recent documentaries have been produced independently. As stated by Barba to our site, he will continue this way of working, but does not exclude other pathways, because “what we aspire to independent cinema is to make the pristine view of history; but filmmaking is a luxury all over the world, and I want to do it, whether independent or with an entity such as the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC). ”

Barba currently resides in Mexico, and is dedicated to television production, screenwriting, advertisement, conducting publicity and cameras direction. He has worked in Telesur Campeche and Televisa Monterrey channels.
